"But then sitting next to me would be a dodo who got in because of unfair means .... that is what pisses me off."

Tell me Puttoo where in India you would find 1-2 dodos in 10 and the rest at par /better than yourself , do you not feel that the proportion of dodos working with you in Canada is much higher ?

Why ask the white guy? I dont get it.
Should I ask the white polish immigrant or the italian or the portuguese immigrant? As far as I know they are all immigrants. Also all of them have different cultural legacies. So there is nothing uniform about that either. So why should I ask them ?

Or are you saying that because they are white they are more 'canadian' and thus I need their permission? In that case why do you think they are more 'canadian'?

Theres this polish lady is as much hung up about how much richer Poland is in its culture compared to Canada, as any desi I know :). Theres no point in asking her since she will want me to be Polish instead :).

So Tendulkar and Ganguly are baboons? Or is cricket exempt from baboonification?

Maybe the parents are missing out on some aspects of the economy that make billions....e.g: bollywood.

BTW what is a culture? Is it refinement and advancement of arts and learning, including dance, sculpture, sports, painting, music, science etc or is it the control the parents should exert over the sexual habits of adult kids.

But ah I digress. I think I can be pardoned seeing how this thread is going nowhere
:D . Back to nirdosh dil.:D

How come this " competitve spirit" is not paying us there. The reason is not that we dont have talent or we dont have competition, the problem is that the system has been screwed up so much that is just fails to function.

As far as infrastructure is concerned, the population factor should make it easier to work out. Look at telecom sector - since we have a large base of population, India was able to overcome this problem. There is no waiting times for phones, no bribing the lineman, no fudging the phone bill ...... when the system was able to work on its own it was able to function and provide a world class service at very affordable prices. How come we are not able to replicate the same in other sectors? What stops the changes that were made to telecom sector be made in power sector also. The problem is there are groups / organisations in India who are scared of losing their base. They are the ones who are doing more harm to India, then the guys who have moved out of India.

culturally in india sport as profession not promoted. How many family motivate their children to became swimmer or bandminton player by profession not even 0.1%, It's not system to blame always.
currently the accepted cricket as profession now see how many talented guy we have in cricket team.

some infrastructure is mainly depend upon natural resources, all the electricity in india is mainly thermal and hydro. you can not take whole coal out side the ground and burn in one day if you have larger population, there is limited stock and there is limit you can use them.

You have limited water on river so you stretch your resource to demand. you can only solve these problem by alternative means of energy like nuclear electricity/solar but thing take time for these kind of solution, it's only 60 year India got independence.

petrol and LPG crisis has same story in india.

Reservation is totally separate topic to discuss but in India there is fair amount of job unreserved level of competition can not be denied here also no one is offering "Lord Gorverner" kind of job from the day one.majority of them work in pvt sector as normal worker even we talk about IT or so called high tech, people are just doing routine job not inventing any "Wheel" or "Gravitation theory".

how many indian won nobel prize after coming here.

Agreed in a sense (although I don't agree with the "run away" comment). Its farcical though when the countering comes from someone who probably shovelled more snow this week in Ottawa, Canada. Hats off to those guys who decided to stay back and change the system to make things better for themselves and others.

Sacrifice professional ethics and culture? You're kidding me! Like I said before, that's you, not me. I haven't sacrificed any of those things, on the contrary, I have gained a broader perspective about both after migrating.

I don't understand your fixation on daugthers and boyfriends. Is that your only measure of culture? What do you call a family of gangsters, muderers and extortionists in which the daughter got married at the age of (put your ideal age here) and did not sleep around prior to that? Cultured?

My religion, which I am freely allowed to practise in Canada, tells me that as a parent my job is to provide the best value/belief system I possibly can for my child at home and introduce her to the same outside. Beyond this, the result is out of my control. This applies regardless of what country I raise my children in. And I take comfort in the fact that out of a dozen cousins who were born and brought up in NA, none of them justify your fear.

In the end, it comes down to accountability. Will you take issues like population, corruption, wayward children, crime and just blame it on the country? Or will you introspect to find out what you could've done differently?

Same for drugs and alcohol. How would you feel when your daughter is sleeping with her boyfriend with no marriage assurances at an age of 17 ?

In India the proportion is very less maybe >10 % and not acceptable in the society.

That is called better "Quality of life" :D here to be more precise here girl start at 12, 17 is too late man:cheers:

they will say-
marriage huh are you backward ? the whole world is changing so you should change for better road condition.

Will children only learn culture/religion from parents or inside home.Isn't whole city's culture(infact whole country), school culture, their friend, culture in work place, TV have significant impact on them.
children spend significant amount of time in school and with friend.Isn't it be odd man out if they don't follow them.

I am not blaming anybody so please don't get offended.
