What do you do with your culture & values ??? forget them and compromise -- how would you find your daughter / son living in together unmarried with their boy friends / girl friends ??

Or drinking heavily at pubs and then being disrespectful to you or call the police -- if not in your children then in their children these traits are bound to appear as these are inseparable parts of the society here.

You mind the guy asking Rs 50 / 100 in India but gladly hand over $10/- as tip here to avoid that frown on the waiter/ess's face .Irony --- here I am obliged to part away with money as tip and 1/10th of that money brings a smile on an Indian s face.

Friends - the question is ' what do we consider as achievement ? ' I wonder if Kishore Kumar immigrated to Canada and waited on tables we would have missed a legend .... btw ... despite heavy numbers , I have not heard of a lot of Indians making it to the top of Canadian society in whatever for - singers / writers and the ilk ...pray name some.

Dont you think thats an overstatement ? For every 10 highly qualified , educated immigrant cabbies , you might find one ' successful '. Look around sir.

My 2 bit. For a professionally qualified person nowadays there is no need to come to USa or Canada unless he is transferred by his company. For a not so professionally qualified or non qualified person this place is good as he can have a good standars of living even doing manual jobs.

People come here seeking greener pastures and when they look back India looks greener...so i guess this is a never ending dilemma.
We came here for similar reasons as most of fellow CDs.
My husband finished his PhD in a record time of 2.5 years and a very senior person from DRDO told him that they do need a person like him for ongoing projects but the current positions are only for 'SC/ST' quota. He did get a good job in an MNC but he still gets upset with "Quota ' system for it not being there, today he would be a proud scientist working for his Country !
Talking of children growing up outside of our cultural values...we do have live-in-relationships in India ( though at a low count as of now).
We do have girlfriend/Boyfriend trend thriving even in lower grades of schools now.
As for Pubs ...we stayed in Bangalore and I have seen Wine shops open at 7.30 a.m even before the grocery shops !
I don't know about Mumbai but GK or Kalkaji or Greater Noida are surrounded by slums and to get there one has to go thorugh the smelly bumpy roads. Graeter Noida has issues with 'Gujjars' who leave their stray animals on road to hit your car and then either claim or snatch money from you.
I personally never visited any Govt hospital but have heard stories how one can fall sick by visiting them due to unhygenic conditions there ...except for a few hospitals like Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

So the point is
'Har kisi ko Mukkamal Jahan nahin Milta
Kahin Zamin to kahin aasman nahin Milta'

Lets make the best of what we have and be successful and content where ever we are coz life is too short and we have so much to do guys!!!.

If you want to curse someone ... you can tell him to be born in these two delhi colonies ....... dont know where you live in Canada but i have not found a place in Canada which is as bad these two colonies in delhi. Parking is a nightmare ..... fights break out if you park infront of anyones house ..... illegal construction has lead to four families living in space of one family dwelling unit, so the pressure on civic amenities. The prices of apartments (not houses) are more then houses here is GTA ..... totally not worth it .... anyway a middle class person cannot afford to live in these colonies.

For Qualified people the quality of life can not be high in Canada/USA until unless you have fraud degree

children future is one of the crap justification.ask the parents how they feel when their daughter start living with their BF without marriage, then go and ask same parents was this career you wanted for you children???

I left India in 2000 and i was paying rent of Rs. 10,000 for a two bedroom apartment ... so i dont know what quality of life you are talking about in a city like delhi in Rs. 15,000 !!!!!!

Tell me honestly if you are a qualified doctor in India and you are a qualified doctor in Canada, where will you get a better quality of life .....

As for daughters living with boyfriends ..... not that i have a problem with that ..... but why do you think of the worst ... my wife has cousins who were born here .... both brother & sister are doctors and their respective spouses are doctors too ..... they are living happy lives .... as for living with BF ... it is prevelant in India also (though not to that large an extent) and in coming year will catch up with Canada ... there goes your argument about this problem also.

I beg to disagree with your observations from a generic point of view. Yeah, what you said is true is some aspect - but a very constrained aspect.

Transport -> Cheap true; but quality? If travelling distance is the only value, yes, it is very worth. If not, I don't think so. Travelling in public buses in any city is a nightmare. Longer distances in the private buses is okay, but getting a seat in train is a JOB at hand. Since you were talking about children also, do you want your daughter to be felt all over every day by strangers in public buses? If you are travelling by own vehicle also, the day to day commute in cities goes at < 10 kmph speed! And your new car is bound to get scratches etc. within 6 months!

food+vegetable+fruit -> I agree with you.

medical system -> It varies vastly in India. While you can find better hospitals than Canadian in India, it costs and hence not accessible to the majority. For anything serious needing a couple of days admission in hospital, the average bill will be more than what an average middle class ears in a full month. To top that, there will be lots of tests done - just to add bills - unless you know the doctor.

1) Better Quality of life

Is there any life exist apart from better road condition? How can be quality of life better here.I haven't born with silver spoon in my mouth but in India I nver cooked my food, Never clean my house and washed my cloths never ever drove my Car.

Guess it depends on individual perception. I always prefer family cooked meals to one by cook. I don't mind cooking myself or with my wife, but that's just me. I don't find putting clothes in the washer, dryer or using a vaccum cleaner every weekend here a big job either. What's wrong with doing own chores? If we are talking about we not needing to do it in India, just think Gandhiji - his motto was to do own chores, wasn't it? If you are a hindu, you can see a similar message in Geetha as well.

Foods Quality starting from snack, fruit, juice, food in restaurant nothing is better here.Tim Horton can never provide the quality of Chai you can get in India with reasonable price.

:-) True, but don't you find it so strange that, the pizza's and burgers and pop's are catching up in India like anything? Being an Indian, I am sure one will know how to make a good tea at home.

btw, ever had tea from any of the road stalls ? Have you noticed whether the serving boy was scratching his butt first before dipping the fingers in your tea while he brought it?

2)Better Job opportunity

Intel,GE,IBM has research Lab in India same job opportunity. People come here live atleast 4-5 guys in one apartment half of time spent cooking their food, another form of slavery do you call this better job opportunity.

Bachelor days, when I started my career, I used to share the apartment with 4 other guys in India. Howz that any different? Yeah, we din't cook and could have it outside (thanks to cheap food)

I am keeping my fingers crossed that the current talks about reservations in private sector won't materialize.

3)Children future

school education is best in India. when it comes to MS or Phd then I can agree but for that there is no need of migration of parents.

Elemenatory level: Here the kids are promoted to think out loud where as in India, they are asked to shut up.

Secondary: Yeah, syllabus in India is far better and advanced.

Higher levels: Getting adm in a good college is a challege - with a bulk of seats 'reserved'. Even if you get in, you don't get to do any real stuff. Study few books, score good and your forget about it. What is really needed in the job is actually learned in the job. Isn't it?

How many second generation Indian are successful in USA though millions of India living here.

Defining success is the tough part in answering this. Without doubt, more kids in this side of the world end up doing what they really like in life - atleast in a field of their choice - than India.

If you are thinking, there are no Boy/Girl friends relation in India, you are way away from truth.

Careerwise, why do you want to define the career for your children? Shouldn't they be allowed to choose theirs? If one was forced into a career not of one's choosing by parents, will he/she be happy?

All one can do is provide them with a fair environment and encourage them. After all they need to study and later build their career. Parent's can't do it for them. I don't think 60-70% reservation in education and reservation in pvt sector etc. is that environment.
