Are you there?
Good point about competition with 1 billion people and one cricket team. Going by your logic, we should have been getting tons of gold medal in olympics ... it is not happening. How come this " competitve spirit" is not paying us there. The reason is not that we dont have talent or we dont have competition, the problem is that the system has been screwed up so much that is just fails to function.
As you rightly said opportunities are limited, but then they are not fair. I studied in one of india's permier insititutions and got in with my hard work. (That is not what i was worried about, i can take on competition any day any place.) But then sitting next to me would be a dodo who got in because of unfair means .... that is what pisses me off.
Frankly i have no issue with reservation, infact my experiences have been quite the opposite. I do beleive that they do make a diference and i for one would not suggest getting rid of them. Though i might have issues with the way they are implemented.
As far as infrastructure is concerned, the population factor should make it easier to work out. Look at telecom sector - since we have a large base of population, India was able to overcome this problem. There is no waiting times for phones, no bribing the lineman, no fudging the phone bill ...... when the system was able to work on its own it was able to function and provide a world class service at very affordable prices. How come we are not able to replicate the same in other sectors? What stops the changes that were made to telecom sector be made in power sector also. The problem is there are groups / organisations in India who are scared of losing their base. They are the ones who are doing more harm to India, then the guys who have moved out of India.

Same for sports- Indian cricket team can not play with 22 player because they are 1 billion people. So which increases competition.
when it comes to infrastructure- Electricity, Water, Traffic, Oil consumption you stretch your limit because of population, then people cry there is power cut in India so let's migrate to Canada because there is no power cut in Canada.

The issue that I put these arguments in support was in response to somebody claiming that there was more competition in Canada then in India - which on no parameters is correct .
Coming back to the original issue of Canada vs India - yes there are problems in both and thats what we are trying to bring to fore --- population , politics and pollution are the bane of India s progress which have permeated to almost all systems and infested it - I agree ........... but then thats a problem that needs to be countered not run away from as people who migrate do.... right or wrong ?
We sacrifice our professional ethics and culture to get what ........ some materialistic benefits .......... better roads and transport and lose the basic values with which we were brought up with ............. here > 60% population is in live in no marriage / multi marriage relationships so much so that this is acceptable here as much as almost all people having sex at an age of 16-17 ...... and then the associated problems .................... this is something which we knew to be wrong and abstained from and now it becomes 'right' and acceptable due to prevalence here . Same for drugs and alcohol. How would you feel when your daughter is sleeping with her boyfriend with no marriage assurances at an age of 17 ?
In India the proportion is very less maybe >10 % and not acceptable in the society.
I am fortunate to work in my own field and contrary to my also meeting similar people in my field I come across different desi faces who work at Mc Donalds , Timmy's , security , CSR s and the ilk ........... they were definitely better qualified for that ........ if you are away from your field for 2 years it as a major handicap and Canada does not readily accept you in your profession in the first place . I do not have any hard facts either but looking around I feel that Canada becomes a hell hole for many wrt growth in their erstwhile profession .
Puttoo - my little experience from India tells me that doctors on an average are the best paid lot - reason is parallel economy - even if quacks sit and practice they get good clientèle what to talk of MBBS / MDs --- tell me honestly how many doctors have you known migrating to Canada from India ?? An average practicing Indian doctor comes in the top 10% in any city in India I assume ........... though undisclosed an income of 5-6 lacs on an average and going up would not be an eye opener . I know this eye surgeon in a small town who makes double of that ........no taxes of course !!

How come then India produces doctors and engineers who are at par with the best in the world ??? They earn gold medals in terms of skills and professional expertise don't they ??
The argument of games is flawed . The reason why India does not produce best sportsmen is because the best people study and work in highly skilled professions in stead of becoming baboons. The competition is so high that not only does it produce the very best in terms of IITs / IIMs / AIIMS but parents discourage their children to go into games / music / humanities .

Sorry, that sounds like something right out of a cheesy Bollywood script. What compromise?? Taking scenarios like these as a basis to extrapolate super simplistic choices (hygenie vs. culture) is ridiculous. Its melodrama that means squat to the guy whose daughter was gang-raped right outside a top notch hotel on an open street in Bombay recently. I better brace for a statement like "she deserved it because she was wearing a mini-skirt".
