Its 100% true that don’t generalize.

I am also not agree with " that ‘80% of professionals work at Tim Horton’s’"

For not getting field jobs : Not only canadian system but also immigrants are equially responsible for that.

Kap,

Finally we agree, eh?

Have a nice day.....:)

Can it be assumed that 7/10
professionals who land Canada end up doing odd jobs for a period of 1 to 2 years which is enough to corrode their sequence of pro expereience . ?? The numbers is what I seek and they hold the key .

Manasvi.

You can probably assume the 7/10 number. Like you said, compare it with your own standards and evaluate the risk. If you think numbers hold the key...you should probably pay heed.

Hi guys,
Great discussion. Just thought I'd jump in with a view posted in TS.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How times have changed.

A few years ago, I was singing the praises of Canada as a haven for potential immigrants — especially to family and friends in South Africa.

Times have changed. In simple terms, unless you have very rich relatives who can support you in Canada, or you are very, very rich, stay where you are.

The ridiculous standards they have set for immigrants are a sure-fire way of saying: "If you don't have money, don't come here looking for it."

If you do, you will be penniless by the time you arrive and you will probably stay that way for a long time.

You will pay dearly for necessary documents before you even leave. And then, as a prospective immigrant, you will pay a hefty processing fee for the application and $975 each for the right of landing fee.

Once you arrive, you will face the inevitable question when you apply for a job: "What Canadian experience do you have?"

Forget about flashing those diplomas and work histories from back home. They count for naught.

When is Canada going to recognize the vast talented and educated, yet untapped, mass of landed immigrants that languish in dream-killing jobs and battle to make ends meet in this so-called land of plenty?

I will not be a party any more to encouraging immigration to Canada. Take my advice. Stay where you are. You are much better off.

I find it amazing that you can conclude that 80% of professionals work at Tim Horton’s based on a one week visit to Toronto and from talking to strangers on the transit system and while clicking pictures………..

Whats there to be amazed in that Cren ...thats how you take a sample survey . See its possible that the sample I inquired may have given me a distorted figure but its equally possible in your case . And when I mention Timmy s it includes cab drivers , laborers , watchmen and the ilk

As regards your USD 60k+ computations

Recompute your calculation taking 9k on an average and 30 % taxes and you will re phrase your earlier statement. For your convenience AED 9k = USD 2500/- . Adding 1/3rd tax it comes to approx USD 3.5 which is as I calculated earlier . The point was that in AED 9K you lead a sastisfactory life professionally & personally which is equivalent to USD 60 k in terms of purchasing power parity as quoted by you earlier . AN AVERAGE CANADIAN LANDED CA GETS A RAW DEAL IN COMPARISION.

By the way pros getting an above average salary is more common in Dubai than in Canada but I would nt wish to go into this point .

And with a secure job in India, drawing Rs 25k – Rs 50k, they should be able to demonstrate significant ties to India that would convince the US Immigration officer to grant them a visit visa to appear at the CPA examination!

I think you never applied for a US visits Visa . Not generalising but the Visa officer having a wry mood or not liking your looks is a reson for your Visa to be rejected. Someone has already vouched to give you proofs for that .I have seen professionals having INR 2lakh income per month getting their Visas rejected at the US Consulate in India. An Indian CA earning 25 - 30k I m afraid holds a very bleak chance. These are facts .

To summarize – you insult professionals like me when you suggest that 80% of professionals work at Tim Horton’s. .

A bitter fact I encountered in Canada . Its the average Desi who knows that he can never reach the top and thinks of leading an average life reaches Canada . How many IIT / IIM passouts have you come across ?? I have also come across ppl who were no ones in India making it big in Canada coz they have pumped in the money . Back in India also had they pumped in that money they would have scored no less. One reason why successful people in India do not consider an Immigration option . Why dont we find many doctors on the board --- simple reason docs are successful in India having private practises and even Govt jobs find hard to hold on to doctors .

No Crenshaw I dont tend to dis respect you . Or any other pro . It startles when u find pros doing menial jobs and u find them 7 / 10 to 8/10 ................. may be you are an A class professional seated too high to find out whats going around . I know this debate is endless and I admit my lack of information sitting out of Canada . And that s why may I ask you to look around at all places and give me approx numbers as per your survey for a week .I will accept your figures hands down no questions asked . And that will also help a lot of other prospective desis.

I would like to add to this comment. I am a REC pass out (any REC'ites please mail in to me) and Canadian companies ask for UT equivalence. They don’t know what is IIT / REC / IIM. I called up a US company asking for employment, they recognised my college but refused employment for their inability to process H1 visa. We can have hope of getting a decent job in US. I don’t understand what is so special about Canadian education and experience. Did Canada re-write academic books again with changes in law and theorems to suite their minu 35 deg C temp?

Food for thought - a very valid question (and perhaps a more valid answer too!:p )
