Whats there to be amazed in that Cren ...thats how you take a sample survey . See its possible that the sample I inquired may have given me a distorted figure but its equally possible in your case . And when I mention Timmy s it includes cab drivers , laborers , watchmen and the ilk

Sample surveys aren’t as simplistic as you make them out to be. You seem to have come to conclusions that you cite very authoritatively (8/10, 7/10, etc) on the basis of an unscientific ‘random poll’ that you conducted on people on the street, with an extremely limited sample size.

I think its very likely that your sample is distorted. The same would happen if I went out and conducted a sample among people that I know – (I’d probably get the opposite results).

The issue here is that your sample appears to be shallow. You aren’t even certain about the number – one day its 80% of professionals who work at Tim Horton’s, the next day its 70% - 80% who work there for the first year.

On another thread BL has reminded posters that there are prospective immigrants who are reading these posts. Don’t sensationalize issues, when you don’t have substance to back up your claims!

Recompute your calculation taking 9k on an average and 30 % taxes and you will re phrase your earlier statement. For your convenience AED 9k = USD 2500/- . Adding 1/3rd tax it comes to approx USD 3.5 which is as I calculated earlier . The point was that in AED 9K you lead a sastisfactory life professionally & personally which is equivalent to USD 60 k in terms of purchasing power parity as quoted by you earlier . AN AVERAGE CANADIAN LANDED CA GETS A RAW DEAL IN COMPARISION.

By the way pros getting an above average salary is more common in Dubai than in Canada but I would nt wish to go into this point .

It would be absurd to consider that the average income tax rate for an individual earning less than US $ 50k is 30%. You have to consider things like exemptions, available deductions, tax saving investments, etc. The effective tax rate that a person would pay at that income level is closer to 18%.

When factoring in taxes at 18%, effective income would be AED 3,050 rather than AED 3,500. Consequently annual salary works out to US$ 36.5k rather than US $42k.

You seem to think that US$ 42k in the UAE = US $ 60k in terms of purchasing power parity. Can you support that with numbers?!!!

Average income of AED 9k for a CA in the Middle East? Bollocks!!! If you want to believe that, good for you!

I think you never applied for a US visits Visa . Not generalising but the Visa officer having a wry mood or not liking your looks is a reson for your Visa to be rejected. Someone has already vouched to give you proofs for that .I have seen professionals having INR 2lakh income per month getting their Visas rejected at the US Consulate in India. An Indian CA earning 25 - 30k I m afraid holds a very bleak chance. These are facts .

Never applied for a US visa? Well, I haven't been talking about the US CPA out of the top of my hat. I've actually got the qualification!

Incidentally, I applied for and received US visas (for personal visits and the CPA) at the Bombay consulate on 2 occassions – never had my applications rejected.

While the atmosphere at the US Consulate in Bombay is inherently hostile (I imagine its similar in others in India too), you’ve made an unfair comment of US visa officers. They are professionals in much the same way that we are. A visa applicant has to be able to convince the officer that he is motivated to return to India. I don’t know the facts and circumstances behind your friends / acquaintances having their visas rejected, but it’s known that if you fumble, falter, contradict yourself, etc, the visa application is rejected immediately.

Its the average Desi who knows that he can never reach the top and thinks of leading an average life reaches Canada .

Are you getting personal here?

Pretty sweeping statement to make! First time I’ve had some one tell me that!

I wonder why this post is in the "Family Class" Immigration group??

Shouldn't the moderator/admin be moving this thread to the right group rather than deleting the posts made by the members.

Professionalism does not come through educational degrees only. It comes through experience and maturity.
People come here with Professional Degrees and a mind set of being Professional.
They try to grab opportunities through limited sources around them i.e. friends, family only. Their sources sail the same boat and put them in the same PROFESSION.
Once they start any ODD job, they start thinking to fullfill their desires of buying a house, car, good furniture and on top of that send money to homeland too.
Money is easy to borrow here and that put these people under debt and they can't think of taking any risk of changing their jobs and get stick to same PROFESSION for long time.
Canada has lot of informative sites and material for new immigratns. This is usefull for before coming or after coming to Canada.
DO WE ALL READ THAT BEFORE MAKING ANY DECISION?
Its very easy to blame somebody than to take responsibilty.

I agree!

Apparently it’s a lot easier for people to go around making statements like 80% of professionals work at Tim Horton’s in Canada, rather than looking at themselves and trying to understand why their immigration plans did not work out…..

Do u know what a canadian exp. is?

They want labours to run their factories, Waiters in hotels, taxi drivers , electricians, plumbers.

this are their requirements.

I think point system is baseless as if they dont consider your degrees and exp. then why this point system is required they should make it open like those who can bring in max. money they will be given visas (like auction).

Believe me , not discouraging any body but facts are facts.

I am working in a very good reputed company and at low level position .

A bitter fact I encountered in Canada . Its the average Desi who knows that he can never reach the top and thinks of leading an average life reaches Canada .

Manasvi, a cpl of questions only you can answer. Do you consider yourself an AVERAGE desi? If not, do you consider it worth the effort to prove that you are not?
The problem I notice is that people think they are above average(based on their track record) once they land here they have a tough time proving their previously held assumptions.
This is a humble observation and is not meant to be judgemental and provoke anybody. So please feel free to ignore the post if needed.
