As stated previously numbers and statistics cant be sidelined but at times they may be very much biased . So one shd make his own observation & judgment .

I will quote a friend I met in Canada . They are a family of 04 . Sister is doing Bachelors in Comp Sc and the brother is studying medicine . Mother took up a course in Real Estate and is currently working as a real estate consultant .She was not working earlier in India .

Now this friend of mine disclosed (She is an Oracle cert DBA and has done Asst DBA stint in Toronto ) that she was switching lines to take on real estate as it had more in-demand jobs and was also undergoing a course for the same .

I was surprised when she further diclosed that at any point of time 3 members had to work and one could study . She had to break her studies . Her brother took a break when she had to study . 3 members worked 1 studied. Now she further revealed that she had even done labor jobs !!! Such situation would nt have arisen back in India I pondered .

That prob lays the fact that why the no. of men / women increase upon Imigrating . Your spouses are forced to work and maybe your sons also . Thats how the no.s get dwindled .

But still for those who rely on statistics alone the site in both positive and negatives is a reason to reckon with .

BL - wonder whats happened to our request for a re poll on Canadian Desi ?? As making it conscientiously we can make our own genuine clear findings .

Hmm, the previous polls were not conscientious?

Yesterday, the article was a 'must read', today 'statistics and numbers' are very much biased. Why do I keep hearing this word 'flip-flop'.

Yeah sure, first 80% of Canadian immigrants work at Tim Horton's. Now, Canadian immigrants are forced to put their children to work as well to make ends meet (that's what is being implied by this previous post)...........and all of this from a guy who knows so much about Canada after having visited for a week....

If we want to disect the whole situtation on your argumnets, then I don't buy statistics of only 48% people finding work within six months of arrival to Canada. It is 100%, go to any employment agency and they will be more than willing to place you the following night on a labour job.
When you talk of 70% statisfied immigrants in Canada, now what portion of person in this figure a within 1 or 2 years of arrival date. Probably this figure may include people who have second and third generations in Canada. For your information after 30 years in Canada, you are still identified as visible minority (immigrant). Source is any govt. application Form.
I feel this discussion was related to professional acceptance of new arrived immigrants based on their skills and qualification.
Also I was waiting for your comments on the credential evaluation of Engineers. Do you still find it a logical way or I have not understood the importance of the process.

This is from canadaimmigrants.com a very positive attitude, may become a reason to stick around and wait for the change..........
------------>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
When you come to Canada for the first time, you see smiling faces welcoming you. You tell yourself "what a wonderful country". For sure, the country is beautiful and diverse.

Trouble starts when you start to look for work. Most of the time, the government will not give you hard time in recognizing you academic achievements but professional organizations, public workplaces and companies will do. They will require you to have the Canadian experience and they fully know that, since you are a newcomer in Canada, you can't possibly have it. If they don't hire you, you will never have the experience they want and that's where the vicious circle starts.

The government has many programs to help immigrants integrate the job market but the local population do resist in subtle manners to this integration and make sure these programs mostly remain ineffective.

For seeable future, as most of immigrants are highly qualified people, they can look for employment outside Canada once they acquire the citizenship. Self-employment is another alternative that should be explored.

In the long run, we should penetrate the system and accelerate changes from within by entering politics or create political parties and pressure groups in order to lobby for change.

The truth is that the long established Canadian population is declining in the overall number and number of professionals to replace the retiring baby boomers. Soon or later the system, as it is, will collapse and they will have no choice other than hiring the immigrants. The later number grows day by day. We are probably the sacrificed generation but time is working for us and our offspring. That's how immigration works.

If you read the survey to which links have been provided, you will see that the people covered were immigrants who arrived between October 2000 and September 2001. The interviews were conducted between April 2001 and June 2002.

Visible minority = Brown / black / etc. Info is usually needed either for statistical purposes or for Equal Opportunity Purposes (ironically something that benefits immigrants)

Precisely. And we were discussing the issue that 6 in 10 immigrants was not working in their own profession 6 months after coming to Canada per the longitudinal survey quoted above. However, out of this 60%, 48% were not looking for another job (just 6 months after arriving) and 70% of all immigrants interviewed suggested that they were happy with immigration. Kind of tends to suggest that they were happy with the changes that they made?

Well, I'm not an expert on the process for licensing engineers. I just took a quick look at P.Eng Ontario's website though and found this letter written to MacLean's magazine by its CEO.

http://www.peo.on.ca/news/Other_news_releases/macleans2003.pdf

Apparently one third of the 65,000 licensed engineers in Ontario are internationally trained. If 22,000 odd people who were trained internationally could get their licenses, I'm sure others can as well........

My previous question / comments were directed to engineers who immigrate to Canada and cannot find jobs..........do they approach the licensing authority prior to their intended arrival in Canada to get an idea of the licensing requirements / to see if they will meet those requirements?
