I am now in S'pore (have learned satu, dua tuga ampat lima...) and here also the company is modelling me off as the brain from IIT! Really has its perks! Actually that's what landed me the job in my lap, the fact that I am from IIT.
Will be back in Canada soon. Back to dreary Waterloo.

Crenshaw , you are right ......Makapao's location is in Toronto indeed.

i did an ip search for his/her ip loacation and here is the response i got

IP Address Country (Full) Region City ISP
24.114.***.*** CA CANADA ONTARIO TORONTO ROGERS CABLE

Now that we all know that he is bluffing about being in s'pore, it will be interesting to see his explanation , or will he just bite his tongue and go into oblivion.

If you can find IP address of the member, it means there is no privacy act involved in doing so. Please tell us how you do it? It will be of interest to me. Does that require to know the server or it can be done from the server alone. I am not an IT geek, tell us in detail. Probably try to elliminate dublication in voting or avtars.

MI is a moderator and all moderators can view IPs on the forum for every post. You don't need to be an IT geek for that.

Hw do u get it. Is it possible to get IP address for me or any person with the programme u have or it can be found only from the server? for my information.
I could find canadiandesi.com is on gemini.lunarpages.com so that is the server in US where CD is located. But how do I get to know the IP address of members on the site. Or it is the feature provided to CD by lunarpages.
CD members please put in your comments. Probably there will be some way to find multiple avtars on the site.
Lunarpages charge for the services. So, how does CD finance to keep site floating? There must be some owners to this website. Who are those?

Hello CDs,

Someone somewhere along the line said that IIT isn't as good as it is made out to be. I think it was Teja Gill on another thread.

Please read this site:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/06/19/60minutes/main559476.shtml

Should I believe anybody on this forum or do Murthy and Khosla have better credibility value. All the same without this site and without either me or anybody else IIT fame has spread far and wide, so who are we kidding if we say it is not as good as purportedly reported.

BTW, Teja, are you by any chance an IItian?

Also does anybody know what happened to that hothead Makapao from IIT Mumbai and RIM?
Desimisri

Hi desimisri,

Yes, I am from IIT. My association with IITs is a long one. As a student (IIT Chennai), external teacher (IIT Kanpur and IIT Chennai) and examiner (IITK, IITC and IITM). I still maintain that it is the quality of IIT students that has made the difference not the standard of teaching.

The IITians have done pretty well for themselves in US. The University Professors give first preference to IITian applications when deciding on fellowships. This also is from personal experience.

Way to go, TG !

Makapao made this post at 16:31 EST. That would translate to about 05:31 on Saturday morning in Singapore where he claimed to be.

Cren,

On Friday Oct 29, Ontario was on Daylight saving time. 16.31 pm there was 4.31 am, Oct 30 in S’pore not about 5.31 am. Your opening statement based on facts is incorrect, what value do you think I place on the rest of your post that is conjectural in nature?

For the mods, JD and others. I can write in cyberspace from S’pore and make it seem I am writing from Toronto or Timbuktu.(Elementary, my dear Watson?). To use IP addresses to locate a person is a faulty method. If it was so easy, more terrorists/money-launderers would have been captured.

For desiskywalker. Thanks for sticking up for me. Call centre is the operative word.

For Chandreshsaheb, I sincerely wish you all the success possible.

For the person who is wondering if I will bite my tongue and go into oblivion. I will, as far as CD is concerned, go into oblivion, but I will definitely not bite my tongue.

For Teja. You are my guru sir. All that association with several IITs! I bow down to your hallowed personality.

Dubai hater.

While Ontario was on EDT when you made your post, this website was not on daylight savings time (therefore I said that you made your post at 16:31 EST). Singapore is EST + 13 hours, therefore it would have been 05:31 in Singapore when you made your post.

MI's post in regards to your IP clearly suggested Rogers Cable.

Incidentally, the killers of Daniel Pearl were tracked down to a cyber cafe in Pakistan........after they sent out an email......
