Makapao made this post at 16:31 EST. That would translate to about 05:31 on Saturday morning in Singapore where he claimed to be.

So, Makapao had nothing better to do on a Saturday morning while away on business in Singapore.........- I'd say its much more likely that someone would be sleeping at that time.

The other possibility is that Makapao was in Toronto all along and made that post from here itself.

Incidentally, I sent Desimisri a PM yesterday to say that he had started slipping up. The Arab born in Cairo, lived in India story did not sound too convincing any more, there indeed were holes in it, I am quite capable of opening them up.

From the trend of threads I imagine that Makapao is a troll for a member who contributes regularly. Will the real Makapao stand up and also tell us about any other aliases that you are using? You know that the moderators are able to view your IP..........

Also does anybody know what happened to that hothead Makapao from IIT Mumbai and RIM?

I'm still here; have been reading on and off intermittently.Good to see you sticking up for the top schools of India. They are many times better than Canadian schools.
At RIM, I am paraded around as the wonder boy from IIT-Mumbai. I am now in S'pore (have learned satu, dua tuga ampat lima...) and here also the company is modelling me off as the brain from IIT! Really has its perks! Actually that's what landed me the job in my lap, the fact that I am from IIT.
Will be back in Canada soon. Back to dreary Waterloo.
Are you still around Teja? Don' t see many of your posts. Of late there is a person by the name of crenshaw who is hogging the limelight. Making one hell of a case for Canada.

Though I did swear not to come back to write on CD, I did this just once as somebody invoked my name. But then , bloody ruddy hell, promises are made to be broken!

Someone somewhere along the line said that IIT isn't as good as it is made out to be. I think it was Teja Gill on another thread.

I personally think that the IITs and the IIMs are pretty good schools. My objection though is with the mentality that if you're an IIT grad, Harvard/MIT/Yale/Stanford et. al are a cakewalk for you. Sheer nonsense. You don't have to discredit another school to promote yours.
Btw, Majority of the IIT grads who've shone on the global stage also had post-grad degrees from Harvard/Standford/MIT.

I had two roomies when I lived in the states. Both infosys employees and both IIT computer engineering grads. One guy was very bright, the other was absolutely ordinary. I've also worked with several U.S. Ivy league grads, the majority were mostly "normal" guys from well-to-do families. The only real exception was this Harvard guy who used to think and work at about 7 times the speed of others. This kid was superhuman, he knew pretty much everything about everything.

My point is school rankings don't mean much when you deal with individual students. I don't think there's any denying that the IITs are in a league of their own, we should be very proud as Indians. However despite all the brainpower, where are the inventions? Where are the ground-breaking discoveries in physics? Do they not exist or do our schools do a poor job at marketing their prodigies?

Wonder how we got here from the Canadian immigration point though.

Crenshaw , you are right ......Makapao's location is in Toronto indeed.

IP Address Country (Full) Region City ISP

Now that we all know that he is bluffing about being in s'pore, it will be interesting to see his explanation , or will he just bite his tongue and go into oblivion.

Hello CDs,

Someone somewhere along the line said that IIT isn't as good as it is made out to be. I think it was Teja Gill on another thread.

Please read this site:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/06/19/60minutes/main559476.shtml

Should I believe anybody on this forum or do Murthy and Khosla have better credibility value. All the same without this site and without either me or anybody else IIT fame has spread far and wide, so who are we kidding if we say it is not as good as purportedly reported.

BTW, Teja, are you by any chance an IItian?

Also does anybody know what happened to that hothead Makapao from IIT Mumbai and RIM?
Desimisri

Hi desimisri,

Yes, I am from IIT. My association with IITs is a long one. As a student (IIT Chennai), external teacher (IIT Kanpur and IIT Chennai) and examiner (IITK, IITC and IITM). I still maintain that it is the quality of IIT students that has made the difference not the standard of teaching.

The IITians have done pretty well for themselves in US. The University Professors give first preference to IITian applications when deciding on fellowships. This also is from personal experience.
