Guys just a thought here..
Yeh Jo Hai ZIndagi, which most agree, was and will remain the Pinnacle of Hindi Serial comedy...

Now..if that show was telecast today, wouldnt that style of comedy be kind of Jaded for the Gen-X ? I mean its like asking Hrishikesh Mukherjee to make Golmaal today !

What do you think ?

You mean Gen-Y? Gen-X are people born between 1966 to 1980, one of them being me.

Had written on a different group, reiterating here.

Individual taste in music & movies normally depends upon what you listened to or enjoyed in childhood.

So yes, for people of gen-X like us, YHJ will rule the roost when it comes to TV comedy.

Even Hrishikesh Mukherjee could not repeat his magic in that horrible "Jhooth Bole Kaua Kaate".

Well, if it was telecast today, i for one would watch it, and record it too

GolMaal...........what a picture. Utpal Dutt was awesome.

I was in India for a short trip, last week. I bought Golmaal and some other movies.....Chalti ka naam gadi, Pakeezah, Guide, UmraoJaan, etc.

Hey Hiren, Those blogs are indeed good...Meghal..sorry Gen-Y suckzzz no doubt ..But sad to say, my wife is a Gen-X and she religiously follows some Ekta Kapoor serials..so much so that I also have started following them ...SO much so, she also likes to cut vegetables when watching that daily soap

BTW guys, just a piece of Trivia...

The background score of such shows as Quiz Time, The world this week, etc., was scored by a non-descrepit musician called Loy Mendonsa...

whom we know today as part of the hit trio..Shanker-Ehsaan-Loy...

Has anyone seen the Mouthful of Sky that used to air in early1995. I liked it since it was in English, the language/accent/pronounciation was good and it has milind soman staring in it.
Any other comments on this serial?

Sidenote : Yes. Quiz time was good with sid. basu. The world this week was a favourite stuff to watch when i was in REC in 1992-94. The TV room used to be filled for Chitrahaar, Chitramala and The world this week. Since REC had 50% otherstate students (most who did not know Tamil), you would see that for the world this week, it used to be mostly other state guys who watched it and some 1 or 2 locals (incl. me).Most tamilians at that time did not watch the world this week but they watched chitrahaar and mala. Also (it was on friday night and they served egg dosai in the mess), when chitramala/chitrahaar was broad cast, all tamils were in the TV room and the northindians in the mess and when The world this week was on, all tamils were in the mess and all north indians were in the TV room. For guys like me who watched both the programmes, we would settle for regular stale doasi's ( the mess people would have stopped making on the spot egg-dosai's then but then just made 30 dosai's and left them on the table for people to eat).
Sidenote 2 : In REC we called the people from the states outside Tamil nadu, North indians or Northies. So it is just the same words that i have used. I have not said those words to insult anyone from any region of india
