You may also want to try talking to the employment agencies and see what are the job prospects in other provinces.

Hi Febpreet,
Thanks for your suggestions. Due to family constraints I am constrained to be in the GTA only or leave canada. If Ontario itself can offer only this much, I am sure that other provinces canot better this for sure.
you may be surprised but most of the desi Architects immigrants that I know have not gotton above $ 20 an hour salary - in pure architecture (may be just 2 or 3). Almost 98% of the people I know- in pure architecture- are either unemployed or moved to another line or are getting salary of $ 15 or less. It is a pathetic profession in Canada for sure.
As you may know, I am in the process of studying SAP (application process).
My main goal now to to get my severence package from my previous company.
Thanks for all your help.

Peace by TK

Its good to know you are getting EI. My case is like I applied and was interviewed for a higher position by my director. After interview he responded positively after all only his decision is required, then he forwarded details to HR to proceed. I waited for 2 month nothing happens, then suddenly a white Canadian got hired for same position I was interviewed, then same director asked me work under him.So, its just choice what a person wants to make, I quit , Not even getting EI. At this recession time you need to avoid any confrontation or have some solid backup or references, knowledge or experience is no good at this time.

In this recession time, she wants me to work voluntarily for 3 months and then after 3 months she will decide to pay me between 6 to 8 $ an hour based on my performance. She also said that if I stay long enough, she will handover the office to me and retire (a typical Canadian tatic of trying to cheat an immigrant)

I thought that there is a minimum wage requirements (I believe it is more than $8 an hour) which an employer must obey. Is it legal that an employer can pay as much as he likes as long as employee has no objection?

Hello Guys,
Wanted to to update you on the proceedings. Today I got a call approving my SAP course that I intend to take in Mississauga. They approved my course. They approved my parking fee as well as travel to Mississisauga ( @ $0.15 per Km).

However they did not approve the following items ;
1. daycare fees while I will be studying
2. Lunch while I will be studying
3. Extra money to eat at restaurants, Buffet during weekends

I did not want to fight with them (though I could have won) b'cos it seems that from the part that I am in they never approve SAP course.
They asked me as to why I choose the course and also they asked me a lot of questions about my bank account (how much money is there), will my parents / relatives give me money , RRSP , Savings, Gold /Jewels, If I can get a line of credit or use the credit card to pay part of the money for the course etc.. I replied that I have no money at all (which is true, but donot know if they can check it). Also they asked about all my family member's earnings / savings, the child tax benefit from the govt..

My EI end in jan last week of 2010 while the SAP course ends on april 10, 2010. So from jan end to April 10th, they will pay me a sum equal to the EI that I got as well as Car gas (KM) charges and parking charges.

I fall under Ontario skills development where the cap is $28,000. If I had fallen under Second career (where the condition is laid off and you belong to a useless profession), then the max. tution cap is $28,000 and your expense claims are unlimited. I read from redFlagDeals that a person got $48,000 funding for 2 year incl. Daycare.

I would be pleased to help some one with more information, as needed. Please send me a PM (if you need any clarification or explanations)

Peace by TK

Sidenote : Yeah. I am sure that my ex-employer will boil with envy when he hears this as he canot stomach a visible miniority getting this much help from the govt. when he fired me from my job to teach me a lesson. sure he will be getting some ulcer.

Hi TK,

Congrats. I am happy for you and wish you make best of it and get a right placement after this course. A nice job will also help you to come out of syndrome of that bad phase and move on to better avenues. You may even get more than these petty things (lunches and buffets) with your skills and experience. Forget that as under paid training period. Your (ex) boss also must have long forgotten all about you and busy getting the most from newer immigrants.

Having gone thru somewhat similar situations, during a chance meeting with my (ex) boss, I told him that his harsh (and low paid) training set the ball rolling for my career and he smiled.
