Thanks Guys ,

I was working in a permanent job from Oct 2006 to June 2008 where my EI was getting paid .Since July 2008 , I am working as an Incorporated Consultant in which no EI is being paid . ........ My contract ends March 2009 . Assuming I am out of work can I claim EI ? Who is the best Authority to clarify this ?

There is no EI paid if you are a consultant (i.e. a contractor) and out of work (means your contract ends).

Fido,

If I were you, I would call HRDC; stay anonymous with them if you wish too.

I have a feeling you will still be eligible for EI based on your previous employment.

Update us on this!

Yes , I also feel that I might be eligible since its 8 months that I am out of permanent employment and have worked nearly 2 years prior to that ..... I will talk with the HRDC and EI Helpline as suggested . Thanks .

Hi Fido,

I have read in EI FAQ they hold an EI file open for 52 weeks after you file it and if u get a temp/contract job in between u dont lose ur benefits..

In your case there is a slight difference in that u have not filed for EI claim before u took the contract.. this may prevent from making a claim now since ur last job u did not make any contribution.

Ur best bet is to contact the HRDC and EI help line..

The Dude..

Hi,
I have come across a situation like this when I was Director HR for Olympic Spirit. They have to prove that you were fired for either insubbordination or non performance or any such thing with documental evidence. Call me and I'll tell you what to do.
