Hey TK

Isn't is worth trying ? instead just loosing hope ?

I know it will be very difficult for me to claim EI but i still wanna fight for it.

I DONT WANNA GET INTO DISSCUSSION IF I CAN GET IT OR NOT.

I want CD's help to find the way to get the EI.

what should i do to make my case stronger before i APPLY

CAN WE DISCUSSES ABOUT HOW TO MAKE CASE STRONGER THIS MIGHT ALSO HELP OTHER CD'S , after all we are all paying for EI insurance , so why not use it when we need it...

nothing is impossible i have talk to HRDC again in Toronto north york office by phone, i hv 60% chances ..

so far what they have guide me is:

I need to seriously try to apply job before i move , if i cant find then its justify
I can move based on fear of my wife that after loosing her current job she will have hard time finding another job because of language barrier , - since she is moving i hv to move with her and leave my current job. - i will need to get letter from my wife's company that her position has been terminated and she will not have job after maternity.

BASICALLY THEY WANT TO SEE IF I M REALLY SERIOUS TO FINDING JOB, i need to prove them that once i move to Toronto i will be able to find job sooner

SO, so far so looks good at my point , since i hv started applying from now, i need to keep all details with me before i apply.

all i need to do is finding a company who can either give me verbal or written notice that they will be interested to took me if i move to Toronto - then i m set

i guess this is enough research from my site NOW I WANT OTHER CD'S OPINIONS about other constructive steps,

this post will not help only me but others too, there is system and benefits available for us but we need to prepare to take them with right approach

MAY BE CD'S LIKE "morning_rain" can put more lights towards this discussion since he already works for HRDC. his comment will be valuable

Here is how u can make a claim under EI rules..

1>
Ur wife should start working in Toronto..
2>
She should probably be making more than u and should be the primary bread winner..

The first point i think is strongly required and the 2nd point may be optional.

This would make a strong case for getting EI for relocating to accompany Spouse or Dependant child.

Wife on maternity leave does not qualify.

U can try creating a case against ur company for harrasment.. It is not that hard and the HRDC is very lenienent in such cases..
But u should have it all documented .. When individuals are pitted against big companies the HRDC sides with the individual and usually big companies do not contest the claims for fear of lawsuits..

A friend of mine did something similar he quit his job at a large telco and claimed harrasment.. if i understand the situation it seemed like a case of his competance.. but he had the whole case documented in a way that the HRDC could not refuse.. e.g. he was forced to work on weekend and told in no certain terms that his work should be completed by monday morning, his manager was not replying to phone calls for some activity that needed the managers access over the weekend. he claimed they were doing it on purpose..

there were other instances he managed to document..

As per HRDC , I suppose to get EI if I have to move with family to different province:
HRDC Reason No. 17: Obligation to Accompany a Spouse or Dependent Child to Another Residence.

I TALK TO hrdc OFFICER TODAY AND THEY ARE NOT SURE IF THEY CAN GRANT ME EI BENEFITS. I can only get ei if there is no other alternative but to move.
Actually, we are moving because we have new born baby and my wife has some relatives in Toronto which will be big help for us. MY WIFE WILL BE ON MATERNITY LEAVE

BUT ACCRODING TO HRDC THIS IS PERSONAL CHOICE WE ARE NOT MOVING BECAUSE OF WORK RLEATED ISSUE.

IF I PROVE THEM THAT I WILL GOING TO TORONTO TO FIND JOB AND I HAVE GOOD CHANCES THEY WILL CONSIDER EI BENEFITS:
Reason No. 22: Reasonable Assurance of Another Employment in the Immediate Future

Any idea guys ? is there any steps that I need to take early so I can get EI , WE ARE MOVING WITHOUT JOB IN TORONTO SO EI WILL BE BIG HELP UNTILL I FIND JOB

Hrdc process is complicated they don’t give me YES or NO answer , they want me to apply for EI benefits once file is open they can take decision before that they don’t say yes or no.

Hi blue_peafowl,

Stay at ur current jobn until you get laid off and then move to toronto.. ur EI benefits should continue...

This is the easiest way..

Thank you for your opinion.

I know it will be hard to find job in Toronto ...

But then again , at my company they have started triming down the fat, means they have started laying off people.... one buiding already close and other lay off on the way...

second thing my wife company already notify her that there will be no job for her when she comes back because they are going bankrupt

NOW , THE MAIN REASON TO MOVE... WE BOTH DOSENT SPEAK FRENCH AND NOW ITS GOING TO BE VERY DIFFICULT FOR US TO FIND JOB WITHOUT SPEAKING FRENCH...

Atleast in Toronto we dont have language barrier and will give us better chance of finding job then Montreal,QC

since my wife going to have maternity , we have some money coming in as well as
i will atlest find job as tele maketting, support or customer serivice job to begin with.

Plus i am considering putting some strong reason that i can have better chance of getting EI

for such as : we are moving based on french language barrier - that might consider as job related.

second i will try to find job before hand - will submit those documents

i will need to find some agency or company who can give me verbal or written confirmation that i will have job once i move to Toronto - that is strong reason.

THAT IS WHY I AM ASKING U PEOPLE IF YOU KNOW ANY OTHER WAYS OR TRICK THAT I CAN GET CERTAIN TO GET EI BENEFITS

If we dont take a move now and stay in Quebec it will be very difficult to find job after getting layoff from my company...since there is many qualified ppl with french skill to compete with.

ALSO, ONCE I GET EI BENIFITS MY PLAN IS TO DO SCHOOL IN TORONTO,, Montreal dosent have enough institute in IT where i can go for couple of month courses.

Hi CD's

My moving is sure for several reason...

i dont wanna stay more in quebec , i m tired.

i dont mind taking heat of slow economy,

ALREADY STARTED TAKING SOME STEP WHICH WILL HELP MAKE MY EI CLAIM STRONG.... just need few more advice from CD's ,

i might find something useful from your comments which i may miss during my research

by the way "dudewasmycar" thank you for your input,,, no i cant send my wife to work.... i need her to take rest and need her with my new born kid

As i hv mentioned i will try to get EI benefits if that doesn't work i dont mind plan B which is finding some odd job for the moment...

I am workaholic - i can go for any job, i dont feel shy doing even delivery or cleaning floor - although this is not what i prefer but i m talking about worse case scenario.

SO AGAIN, MOVE IS SURE BY THIS SUMMER- just looking to get more info how to make my case strong for EI .

thank anyways for all your help....i dont wanna hijack this topic .... BUT HOPE OTHER IWLL GET SOME BENEFITS FROM THIS

Again, thanks CD's

I dont agree to ppl doing such things on purpose.. but in the case of my friend he was just a paranoid sort of individual who overreacted to everything..

Just to warn u since u are employed.. life will be very difficult even on EI.. i dont see the economy rebounding for another year.. And once the econonmy starts to rebounds it will be so slow that it could take over 2 years for laid off ppl to actually find new jobs that they like..

Be careful what u wish for..

Hi guys,

Had a quick question.

My last day of work was 24th feb, 2009. However, I hav'nt received my ROE
yet. Should I call my employers to find out, or just give it a few more days.

Thanks in advance for your advice
