Hi,

I'm planning to relocate to Halifax from India. Can someone please answer the below queries?

1. Average Monthly expenses for a Couple.
2. Jobs in Information Technology - Full-time/Part-time.
3. Websites to check for House rentals.
4. Checklist prior landing in Halifax.

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

Halifax has a small town feel to it. Weather is bad in Winter, lot of snow and snow storms. Otherwise its a pretty scenic city . Population is also less. Mostly White people live there, so very few Indians as compared to Toronto & Vancouver.

The Atlantic provinces ( Maritime provinces ), like Nova Scotia ( Halifax is the capital ), New Foundland & New Brunswick are mostly neglected in Canada. No one cares much about these provinces in Canada. Usually tourism and fishing and off shore ocean oil drilling is their main economy.

For $ 2,000/month a couple can easily live very well in Halifax. $ 1,000 for rent + $ 1,000 for groceries, transport, miscellaneous expenses, shopping, clothes, internet, phone, cable. House prices are 50 % of Toronto and maybe 1/3 of Vancouver, so buying a house is also easy, need not rent.

Hi ,

Assuming that you are new to the site , please use the search feature ... Key in 'Halifax' and chose All from the drop down of time period... You will get lots of information already discussed about Halifax.

For your convenience , I am pasting the links to some of the threads .

Halifax is cheaper in real estate and rent which constitute a major cost of living ... I would estimate 1500 for a couple including a car. IT shops are few . Kijiji , craigslist and local newspaper website should be good resources for accommodation ...also may wish to check Killam properties website.

Not knowing your C.V. and what you are qualified for, here is a brief summary of the jobs posted recently. Needless to say, they all will get filled even before you read this reply.

You must have TWO GOOD References here in Canada and if possible in Halifax for a quick and instant contact. If not please provide what ever you carry into Nova Scotia. You will also need a Permanent Address and a Social Insurance Number also. Must have a Mobile Phone to Contact. So, prepare for all of these things even prior to arrival here. The BETTER You are equipped the sooner you will land a job.

The Main Areas where you might have good prospects are Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford also. So, look into the MAP to find where they are located and get familiarized with the areas and the means of getting to meet with the employer. The starting Salary will be in the range of 36,00-40,000 dollars and for Part time jobs will be even less. Some will be to provide another employee with a break for two weeks or less. The process may continue till you find an Employer who will hire you on probation and then with a full time job, if you perform well.

I will not guarantee that they will take you in. But if the job is still going or Open, you want to apply from where you are... There is an IBM Opening, you must search for it and also see if you are suited for that job. When you find it, copy it and print it. Save it to your files.

GooD Luck.

FH.

Pl. see the IBM postings and of course the other ones too.
