As per hiring trend here in Canada, they will surely contact your current employer to know your behavior, work knowledge etc. There is no harm if you tell them laid off. They understand in the current situation many people got laid off for one or other reasons.

Hi TK !
I dont know if your prospective company will do a 'employment check" .
This is a process generally practised by companies dealing with critical data ( like banks or related companies ).
Employment check reveals everything that is related with your SIN .
I have a feeling that in your field they might not do a 'employment check" since it is a expensive process .

TK in a way is right .... Architecture is a field where normally 90% of companies are very small (5-10 people) ..... so they don't have the resources to do such a search / background checks. But at the same time ... the field is so close knit that such "colourfull" news does get circulated around.

received my ROE today. It is put as "Dismissal" as the cause of leaving the job.

THAT should teach your boss a lesson!
He was able to make it more difficult for you.
Serves him right! He must be suffering.

Yes. he is suffering. The last time I heard, it seemed that he was working well late into the night (7 days a week) to understand / do the work that I had done for 6 1/2 years on my own. I also heard that he was having a lot of trouble in finding the paper work/ my dealings with the client and their responses. I also heard that no one joined my post due to the low wage. Also I heard that he was drinking more, smoking more, BP went high, he became irritable etc...
My EI got approved today. It is around $552 a fortnight (after taxes) as I was paid around $30,000 a year. I wish to thank all Cd's who have been with me during the troubling times and for their advises and comments. My EI is approved for 47 weeks.
My EI being approved goes on to show that atleast there is some law and order in Canada (for immigrants) and that my employer was grossly wrong in firing me. Though the Cdn. Govt. does nothing for the employment of immigrants /settlement of Immigrants, Its laws on EI are fair and it helped me. I did not have any proof save one which I proved that my employer advertised for my position a day before he fired me.

Peace by TK

Hi TK,

We all are happy for you, now that you are on EI and can move on from here and get into some thing better. This is just a breather.

This country grew on the backs of the hard working Immigrants. They have tried to keep everyone down under their thumb and hit them hard when they are down and lying low. They are still doing it and I see that in your case. They move on and so can you and the country has been good in a sense with timely help, just like in your case, by providing you with sustenance.

This is just the start of the slow down. The default rates for the student loans have more than doubled. That goes to show that there are no jobs for the graduates. Unemployment rates have doubled, indicating the retrenchment of workers. The mortgage defaults have started to increase, which is a sign of people unable to pay to stay in a place. The pride of all the young generations to have a high end shining automobile has lost its glitter. Getting out and having a pad of their own is slowly getting shelved. A few good marriages are getting tattered and getting broken. And yet, the Government says "Hey Charlie... we are O.K. because we have very good Banking System". I want to tell them this.... Keep your banking system and take this job and ... ...... ..", where the sun don't shine. You watch and see, the politicians will now ask and also vote for a benefit package (kind of a severance package) when a few of them get shelved indefinitely at the next election.

Now let your EX Boss grind (work) his fingers to the bones till the wee hours, burning the midnight candle.

Just the same it is time that you concentrate and strive a little harder to better your life and work towards improving your living style in this next few months and use the available time well and put it to good use.

Good going. Wish you all the best.

With kind regards,

Freddie.
