You renew your Indian passport now and you are good to go. You don't need to get any new visa or transfer visa to new passport. Just bring your old passport with valid immigration visa and new passport.

Hi Guys,
My Parent got Immigration VISA and expiry date is Aug 2013. Passport Expires after few days of expiry date of immigration VISA. They have plan to travel to Canada in May 2013. Today we planned for buying ticket. Travel Agent confirmed Indian Immigration will not allow to travel to Canada because of Passport validity is less than 6 months.
I had plan to renew the passport in India and get new immigration VISA on new passport but when I contacted to CIC (few months before), they suggested to renew passport after landing to Canada because of it will be complicated process to get VISA stamp on new renewal passport.
Now, travel agent force us to renew the passport.
I was thinking 6 months validity require for visitor visa not for immigration. I believe this is not unique case. Many CD member have gone through this kind of issue. I have noticed similar discussion on canadavisa.com and other sites but didn't find the answer from the people who gone through this scenario.
I am looking for your inputs and suggestions on:
1) How to get confirmation from Indian Immigration, Airport Authority and Air line about there will not be the problem for travling with the passport which expire in less than 6 months?
2) Do you think this could be the problem at London (UK)? (My parents wil change the flight from Heathrow airport)
3) If we renew the passport, what is the process to get VISA stamp on new Passport? How much time it takes? (I contacted CIC in Canada but they asked me to contact to Delhi. I sent them email but not expecting the quick response. Any suggestion?)
This is urgent matter and I'll appriciate your quick response.
Thanks
Thanks Ash20.
Do you or your close friend/relative have personal experience?
I had confirmed with CIC before few months and I had received email from them. Immigration VISA must be on valid Passport at the time of landing.
I believe that is the reason of Immigration VISA expiry date is always before the Passport expiry date.
It is okay for non-immigrant visa.

I don't have any personal experience so you must confirm with concerned officials.
You may want to review following link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/enf/enf04-eng.pdf and see if it answers your question.

Can someone share from experience how much time it takes from medical requests submitted to passport requests?
Also how many weeks does it take to stamp passports and return?

Application sent on June – 2008
Additional documents requested from M’sauga office – November 4th week – 2011
Documents sent to M’sauga office – February 2nd week – 2012
File transferred to Delhi – May 3rd week – 2012
AOR (Acknowledgement letter) received from Delhi – June 4th week – 2012
Medical, PCC & Passports requested from Delhi – November 2nd week - 2012
Passports received by Delhi - November last week
Stamped passports received February second week
The online application status was disabled for 2 weeks after parents received passports at home. Online status was again re-activated and now it was changed to Decision Made, 2 weeks after parents received passports.
If you check online status regularly and all of a sudden if the website says "Can not find your application", don't worry, it means they have stamped the passports and sent back (at least in my case). Just wait and watch for 2-3 weeks. Things have been weired with CIC last couple of years.
