Absolutely. I don't think anyone is ignoring reality here. And the reality is racism does exist in Canada, as it does everywhere in the world. I would like to see a single post from anyone in this thread that says "Racism does not exist in Canada."

It is also a reality that Canadians are generally much more tolerant of other cultures and races than others. And honestly, if you move about in Canada, you won't need any statistics to tell you this. Obviously my experiences are more important and relevant to me than a statistic and in regards to racism, my experiences in Canada have been thoroughly positive. I've met a few rude people, but I can't think of one experience where I was seriously discriminated against because of my race .

And there is also such a thing as overcoming this issue. Rather than complaining about racism passively, it is important to oppose it everytime you face it. Its about a determined Rosa Parks refusing to be delegated to the end of the bus simply because she was black.

There are two kinds of people. People who watch things happen and people how make things happen.

I would like people who are complaining about excessive racism in Canada to narrate their experiences and tell us what, if anything, they did to fight back. Now THAT would be constructive.

Yes. racism does occur unless some people are just turning a blind eye towards it.
The precise nature of racism is irrelevant. At its root, racism springs from the same mistake: discriminating on the basis of a person's skin color.
Be realistic, why when filling a form you are asked your race (Asian, Black, White, etc).
Many people pray that racism will go away, but that is only a waste of good dream. The verse from a scripture, tell you that if you cannot change your skin, and the leopard cannot change his spot, then those that are accustom to do evil, will not change either.
Until the day arrives when skin color is no longer recognized as a person's defining feature, racists will find support for their mistaken ideology in policies that declare skin color to be a paramount human feature.

Sahib, exactly WHO is claiming that racism does not occur? Obviously I'm talking in context of the thread.

And by the way, its interesting you brought up the Jews. Pick one below.

a) THE JEWS ALL GOT REALLY DEPRESSED OF RACISM, DISCUSSED AMONGST THEMSELVES HOW EVIL A MONSTER HITLER WAS, REALISED THE BITTER TRUTH THAT RACISM STILL EXISTS, WALLOWED IN SELF-PITY AND FINALLY JUMPED OFF A CLIFF.

OR

Does this in any way mean racism against Jews died after the Holocaust? Nope, it still exists loud and clear today, but they've learned to acknowledge it and move on with their lives.

I'm still waiting for people who are complaining about excessive racism in Canada to narrate their personal experiences and tell us what, if anything, they did to fight back.

What do you think as an individual ( who landed in this country few days or few years before) one can fight the racism alone. Secondly, if you have to choose between fight against racism and survival... any individual will go for survival, isn't it?

what about the experiences of those not fighting for survival, have good jobs, call themselves successful and still experience racism

I don’t want to continue beating a dead horse, but …

Doesn’t reverse racism exist as well? If we as a minority suffer racism, I think- we as a people dish it out pretty well too. Alot of whites are targeted for hate crimes in Toronto and elsewhere. There are places and situations where I feel safer being a person of colour, because with the current political situation, all whites are seen as American and are again, targets of hate crimes.

Reserved seats and a minimal quota that is set by the government to make sure that a company employs people of all origins discriminates against anyone who tries to get a job based on merit. Why should a minority get a job based on their colour or a white be denied a job because of his colour?

As a minority expatriate class, in some countries in Europe you can't vote - you can here.

In the Middle East most companies require a picture of the candidate applying - you dont need one here.

Your birthdate doesnt matter here, as long as you prove fit to do the job.

Alot of Indians have a mental block when it comes to doing certain jobs, and that affects their opinion of their employers- who in the majority of cases turn out to be Caucasian.

And a matter of personal opinion, I find Mexicans and Blacks have it worse off than Indians. The only thing that brings us down is our negative attitudes most of the time.

Im not defending anyone. Just stating that is an age-old issue and works both ways. We give as good as we get.
