Not true at all, this is either a myth or an excuse. Every company I've worked for in Canada has hired visible minorities when they could easily have hired a "white Canadian guy". As a matter of fact, the agency that sent me for an interview to the Company I currently work for also sent 2 "white Canadian guys" for the same job. My "white canadian" boss found my qualifications and communication skills better and hired me. In the last year, the same "White Canadian" boss has hired a total of 4 people. SURPRISE!! They're all visible minorities AND ALL immigrants. Boy, is this guy a nutcase or what, huh? :D

There are thousands of visible minority individuals in Canada with very decent jobs. Are there no whites to fill these jobs? Or maybe this is because of the other ridiculous stereotype "All whites are stupid, they don't know anything. They're just lucky."? Or maybe the majority is the exception?

Companies that hire based on race as opposed to talent will eventually perish, that's economics 101.

Sure, there may be some favouritism going on at some places, but we're as guilty of it as they are.



I do agree with you BL.... but just read my post again "VM immigrants are offered job only when an eligible Canadian (white) person is not available (Again in most of the cases). "

Well it was just an example I can not arrange details on this ( although % is correct):) .

You might have heard in news within last year ( since this racial profiling issue erupted) that lot of organization pointed finger towrads this odd % of VM in the Police Force. Finally around 2 months before Police accepted the fact and started a drive to recruit VM Cops.

Bio, that does not change the fact that most people from visible minorities will not apply for police or army jobs, does it? Can you contradict that?

Thank you blue lobster for pointing that out to biomed as I seemed to be not getting the point across. My brother who is a cop says it is fair in the police force but as you said indian parents do not want there kids to be cops or anything which is so called dangerous jobs army,navy you name it. And I also have a white boss and I have worked for sevral comanoes too who had white people apply and they chose me to. So biomed you need to see beyond the facts and stats look at everything like I said before.

Bio, I did read your post. Now you read my post again. :)

In the examples I'm giving, there certainly were white candidates who were eligible for the jobs. All the hirings were through agencies and if they send you for the interview to a client, that means they've already scanned your resume and deemed you eligible. No recruiting agency is going to risk their reputation with their client by sending candidates who're not upto the job.

I can only speak for the IT field since that's what I work in. I know many desis having some very good jobs for which eually qualifiied goras are struggling. Why do these desis have these jobs? Not because they're desis, but because they're better.

In the same way, there may be some gora who's better than a desi at a certain job. Should we call it racism if he gets hired instead of a desi for that job?

BL what I am trying to say is if a Canadian employer has choice to select one candidate out of two ( One VM and one Gora with same qualification and exp.) Gora would be hired that position.

Hmm...maybe. But I take comfort in the fact that it never happens in an interview that you get two candidates (one gora and one desi) who are mathematical equivalents of eachother in every aspect.

Hardly. There are many differences between different candidates, even if they have similar qualifications and experience. It is upto the hiring manager then to evaluate the skills/talents of each against the requirement and hire the better individual.

Based on my experiences and that of many others I've met, I'm quite convinced that the better candidate is selected, not the whiter one.

If I would have choice to choose facts from 2 sources (your statement and Facts published by some well known organization) I would go for the facts published by well known organization.

I do understand & get your point; does it mean that I must agree with your point of view??? By saying this I am not challenging your views, I indeed respect your views.

I have seen enough Canada and its system to express my view on some important issues in broader prospective. And when I express myself, definitely I look beyond facts and figures but normally I only write published facts and figures in this forum as my personal views always attract lot of criticism and unwanted reaction from some members:)

I am sure you won’t take it personally. :D
