Hi,
Well just wanted to say that when ever you move to a new location it is dificult to find a job.
I can tell you by my experience I was born and brought up in Africa but of course being a patriot always wanted to go back to India did my graduation and then an MBA in India but trust me the difficulties I faced in finding just a survival job was way more than the problems immigrants go through when they come to Canada.

My advice would be don't flaunt your degrees and think you should get a job as soon as you land, respect the fact that you are in a new place and that it takes time to understand the ways of a country, the education you have was keeping the economy and demands of Indian markets you are in a totally different region with different ideology. see how you can upgrade your qualification to adapt to the changed environment.

I know it is frustrating I am going through the same hell but again it is not the country it is within us to handle that.

My apologies for saying a lot... but one final statement TRUST in yourself.

If you see the number of jobs listed at the right hand side on W'polis you will notice that figure never changes. It is hard coded.

Other than that consider this-

About 25-30 % of jobs on W are filled before they are posted by word of mouth referrals.
Another 10-20% are jobs advertised by recruiters who want to build up their \"list\" of prospective candidates and build inventory.
From the remaining 50 to 65% only about 10 to 15 %of employers will consider somebody with no \"Canadian experience\" which leaves us with 5 to 6.5 % of employers on workoplis who are legitimate and who will consider an immigrant. Do the math and you can see why the stacks are so heavily loaded against immigrants.

My expereince is that the only people who can benefit from W'polis are those who have a \"niche\" technical skill which the employer is finding hard to fill.

I used W'polis to find out what employers are looking for in my field, where the jobs are, what the advertised salary ranges are etc.. ie for Market research. If you want a career (vs a job) you are better off targeting 10 companies you want to work with and pursuing them doggedly till you get a position with them (any sustenance job). Once you are in start networking and move up to your ideal position.

Anyway thats my 2 cents.....

I have only 2 cents to contribute, not a cent more, not a cent less ;-)

Canadian society from right wing Hawks of their own country unlike ours. Canada is in very good shape compared to the U.S. especially with a middle class that is growing. There is a reason why the U.S. purposefully side steps the issue of clearly defining who is middle class as it would really open a lot of Americans' eyes to be hit by the truth.

nivi said it right , Jobs are hard to find whenever you relocate to new place and even harder when shift is to new country. You cant do everything right from day one.

Even local graduates (born brought up in Canada) at times struggle to find one. Freshers struggles even in India.
Difference is in Canada jobs are not advertised as much as in US or India or even UK but you can always get job opportunities in your mail.

There are three ways you can find jobs in canada.
1. Find local job recruiter / consultant , register with them and they match it up for you. All companies do it through them. They can then send you mails. Even for the odd jobs you need to take this path.

2 .Build your professional profile (like in linkedin) and getting recommended helps, same site can be used for networking and finding companies which can give you jobs. and then everyday visiting websites of those companies to watch on any open position. This can land you in job of your likings.

3. Through personal network of friends, uncles , canadiandesi fellas!

I am guessing that is because the 2004 thread is as relavant as it was back then now in 2011. Immigrants still get a raw deal to get jobs.
Jobs remain the same. Labour jobs have never changed and temp. agencies are still there .
Peace
