Hi Guys,

I just got Canadian PR and I planning to move out in another 3 months either to Toronto or Vancouver depending on employment prospects in IT related field.

I have been living in USA for the past 6 years and working in IT area on H1 and its going to expire by the end of this year.I have about 10 years of IT experience (6 yrs in USA and 4 yrs in India).

I have been reading posts (positive and negative thoughts and concerns) on this forum about the job oppurtunities for the immigrants in Canada and I thoroughly understand that the situation is very bleaky especiaially with IT job market with the new immigrants in HIGH END?? jobs, still I want to give a try and test the waters.

So,in this given situation, I welcome and appreciate the advice and answers from the GURUS to the following questions .

where do I stand in this scenario?

I mean with US IT experience can I take any chances to dream about a good job.

After landing how many days I need to struggle to get a decent odd job?

What kind of odd jobs available and how much I get paid P.H?

How much minimum I should make to live comfortably to meet the basic needs.

Am I asking too much????

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

-MS.

deja vu.....:D

Read the other threads on CD, and your Q's will be answered.

Your Q's are v subjective. It's all on a case-by-case basis. Come here with a positive mind. Carry enough cash to survive for a few months without a job. It's a good thing you're coming from the States, that way everytime you spend money you don't start converting it to Rs.

Good Luck & Welcome.......

forumite Jughead will be able to answer your questions.
He landed a job almost as soon as he landed in canada and he is in IT.

Yes, enough cash w/o a job, this is the worst case scenario. Hopefully you don't have to take that route.

Duration : May be 2-3 months max.

Amount: Around CND 700/month or in that range

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't trying to be -ve, but just saying be +ve and be prepared for the worst... did I just contradict myself

As suggested Jughead s/b able to guide better, with more recent experience.
