I lived quite a few years in Canada and for past couple of years I am back in India, my thoughts are:
1. Come to Canada with a open mind, there are good and bad whites. I have lived in a predominantly white society and found that by nature they are helpful and truthful. Its not easy to get adjusted in their culture as many a times you can't understand their sense of humour. As far as racism, I never faced but probably when climbing the ladder due to pyramid structure there is competition. And it does bring out the worst in a human in a competitive environment .
2. You won't have much to save in Canada, probably if you are earning more than 20 Lac per annum in India you are better off there.
3. Quite a few Indian private school's are better than Canadian schools, the pressure definitely is less on kids in Canada before they hit high school. Its individual preference, I personally would like my kids to complete graduation in India and then move for masters out of India.
4. Work culture is definitely laid back in Canada, you will reach back home on time. No more late sittings usually a norm in India due to work pressure pressure and time zone difference.
5. Health definitely improves in Canada.
6. Canadian citizenship is of great value, it gives passport to move to many countries lot easily. Giving your kid an option which if they are intelligent can utilize to the best.
7. Trust me, its not easy to make up your mind which is best unless you have had extraordinary good or bad experiences in either of the country.
In all, I gained from my experience in Canada. With your Canadian experience if you return back it will only be an asset. You won't be unsettled in couple of years time, its good enough time to decide. Your kids are young so its a very good option.
Cheers!!
Over analysis is some times equally damaging as under analysis.
In my 10 years here , I have rarely come across people who have returned and those I have met from India are well settled .
Oh yes the only one I remember was a specialist doctor who returned back coz it is tough to get into practicing medicine here , but then I have met specialist doctors here from India who have bridge certified themselves and are practicing.
Anyone in IT , I would certainly recommend coming here.

Fido.
Welcome back, Fido.
You left out one that left back to India: Ashdfc. The reasons are well known .
The way India is progressing (or the lack of it) I wonder if people still return back.

Well settled in flipping burgers at McDick's, serving coffee at Tim Horton's, working as cashiers and stock boys at Wal Mart, working as Majdoor or Coolie in warehouses and factories.
The next time you meet a non Indian, Paki, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan cab driver, but meet a White cab driver who is not East European , let me know.
Haven't returned doesn't mean they are happy or successful. They have nothing left to go back home to and are stuck doing survival jobs over here.
Their life savings are exhausted in coming here, and false pride and the fear of ridicule if they return back ,and the foolish illusion of living in a so called Foreign first world country keeps them here, albeit as Second Class Citizens.
We all know the PHOREN craze and NRI craze in India
Plus their children can't adjust in Indian schools anymore, if they go back as they can't speak the local languages and have no Indian culture, roots, attachment left in them.
Catch 22 keeps them here, nothing else nothing more.

Use your discretion to weed out the usable information you received here. Some posters are perpetual poopers and will squat in every open space they find and then scream racism at the first whiff of their own stink.
You need information regarding salary levels for survival and comfortable living. Let me put it this way for you - for survival, $40-$45k is enough. Beyond that whatever you earn is upto you how you wish to live. 45-60 can give you comfort, less savings. $60-100k more comfort, more savings (or luxury, your choice).
Most IT guys with your experience will make minimum $60k and depending on your specialization could be double this. After 1 yr of WP you become eligible for PR, which opens more doors for you. The trend in IT is to be self employed rather than payroll for better returns.
Guessing that you and your wife are fairly young, 4-5 years exposure in this part of the globe will help, not harm your future prospects. Of course if you believe in living like a king with an army of servants to do all your chores, your life will be miserable here, stay where you are.
Good luck.

Sahee baath as always [ except politics ]. At last, you are the person I love to have difference of opinion..
