I like the way you guys are sharing thoughts and pulling legs of each other.. :). It enhanced my interest in Canada.. :D...anyways back to basics...Can you pls tell me how much difficult getting a job in Canada would be after processing Visa...and how long it may take..as I would be taking a big risk to take the decision of leaving a near govt company (private though) in India.

A few observations:

1) come with an open mind....do not assume that your "9 years of work experience" will get an opening immediately...it might or it might not....depends on your soft skills and the demand for your knowledge/experience in the Canadian Job market

2) No one on this forum can predict "how long it may take"....depends on each individual's efforts and being at the right place at the right time...

3) Each one of us here have taken a risk and moved to Canada....some have made it....some have returned to India....like TK....if you are willing to stay and fight...then you can become a winner :)...if you have the resolve.

4) If you need to speak/discuss in detail with me......PM me...

Regards

Best regards

30 % - 50 % of your salary will go in the following :

Income Tax ( Both federal taxes & provincial taxes combined ) ,
CPP - Canada Pension Plan - Similar to Provident Fund in India - 4.9 %
EI - Employment Insurance - 1.9 %
Drug Plan , Dental Plan , Eye Plan etc - If you have from your employer will also cost some money on your behalf.

So depending on your income & the province you live in : Minimum 1/3 rd & maximum 1/2 can go in the above deductions .

So your Take Home Salary ( Net ) will be 2/3 rd or only 1/2 of the Gross salary you get.

I know people who are making $ 100,000/ year who get only around $ 60,000 in hand after all the deductions.

A close person I know makes $ 70,000 in an IT related field. Not 100 % IT field , but very close to it, as some IT knowledge & processes are required , so kind of a hybrid field.

He gets about $ 47,000 in hand. But if he goes above $ 70,000 & makes $ 100,000 his tax bracket will also increase , so he will probably not get most of the extra $ 30,000 he makes :(

Hi Fido,

Thanks for your post. I have expertise in web based application built on asp.net, mvc and back end - sql server 2008 , 2012 in various domain like insurance, admin etc. My current role is technical lead.

Technical Lead : How much gross per year are you making in India right now ?

How much NET are you making right now - Take Home - in India right now ?

I am assuming you are making atleast.maybe 15 Lac /year gross package ?? ..take home is probably 12lac/year out of that

Give us your take home salary & the city you live in & we will tell you whether its worth it to come here or not.

1 lac/ month net in a small city in India is a good salary ..but in places like Mumbai , Delhi etc its not much.

Still a good salary in Metros, provided:

1. You own your home 100% or living in the ancestral house.
2. Your spouse is working full time as well.

Yes if you own a house its fine. Otherwise the rent & real estate prices in Indian Metros is crazy, especially places like Mumbai & Delhi.

The EMI payments on those real estate prices are also crazy as MTG in India is 12 % - 13 % , not like
3 % over here in Canda.

I know people in India who are paying Rs. 70,000 - Rs. 80,000 per month in EMI on small crappy flats in Mumbai or Delhi.

Real estate in Chennai , Bangalore or Calcutta is relatively cheap ..but its also increasing now due to IT salaries & Finance salaries from multinational companies in India.

Tier-2 , Tier-3 Cities in India are not bad from the cost of living point of view , pollution , traffic point of view either provided you get a job in your field over there.

My feel is that if you are currently hands on with your skills , you should be able to get a developer position here relatively quicker ... then after an year or so , you can work towards lead positions depending on how you fare in the market.

Settling down should be smoother than most immigrants and you may wish to decide after some time which place is better for you..Chances are - you will side with Canada.
