You only need $ 2,000/month aka $ 24,000/year aka Rs. 12 Lac/year , ONLY if BOTH of you have NO job for a year. ( 1 CAD $ = Rs. 50 )

$ 1,000/month MINIMUM will go in rent for the apartment..1 BR,Hall,Kitchen..this too is on a lower side ..could be more depending on the city,area,type of apartment. Montreal has some really cheap apt. sub $ 1,000 , but NOT Vancouver or Toronto or Calgary.

$ 1,000/month will go in groceries, transport, phone, internet & other miscellaneous expenses like entertainment..but usually that can be reduced to around $700/month, if you want by living KANJOOSLY...NO car is involved in this cost, ONLY public transport !

For Car , Petrol , Insurance , Maintenance even if its a USED car, you will need atleast $500 - $600/month, especially if you are a NEW comer.

Wouldn't you need Rs. 1 Lac/month in India if BOTH of you had NO job, and had to pay rent for a flat or EMI for a flat in a big city in India ?..plus other expenses like food, transport, school for kids , medical expenses etc ?

So the Rs. 12 Lac/ $ 24,000 is only for survival for the first year if you have NO job & spending through your saving.

But the chances are you will get some job, even if its a survival job ..you might not like it , but it is what it is .

Minimum wage is $ 11/hr , so with a survival job each person can make around $ 2,000/month , so 2 Person doing survival jobs aka low level jobs, which are NOT in your field, or in your line , you can make $ 4,000/month..and your expenses are around $ 2,000/month , so you can save $ 2,000/month , just doing survival jobs

Survival jobs are BOTH physically & mentally draining. There is NO job satisfaction , & its NOT good for your self esteem & self respect..but sometimes you have NO choice, but to do them..otherwise your SAVINGS keep on getting depleted each month.

Ofcourse if you get a job in your field, very difficult initially , but NOT impossible..its obviously better & better paid

Wherver you go , whatever you do , they will ask you for Canadian experience & Canadian education ..a hard cycle to break. Some manage to break it & get a job in their field , & others DON'T ..and get STUCK doing a survival job for the rest of their life, & find it hard to come out of that RUT.

Worse come to worse, RECOVER whatever money you spent in coming here by doing any job & Then GO BACK ! I know a desi guy , who did JUST that . He was well educated & well qualified, but was doing a GENERAL LABOUR job in a warehouse. He had spent lot of money in coming here..so his ONLY goal was AFTER he didn't get a job in his field, was to RECOVER his cost & expenses of coming here. The moment he broke EVEN , literally he booked a flight to India the next day , NEVER to come back.

Some people somehow survive for 3-4 yrs by doing BS jobs, take Canadian citizenship & THEN go back , but this guy went back in about a year..as Canadian citizenship was of NO use to him & he had NO lure or attraction for it , plus he would have LOST his Indian citizenship.

India doesn't have any dual citizenship - OCI/PIO/NRI status is a JOKE - what Chaiwallah Modi has to do is implement a REAL dual citizenship for NRI's instead of this OCI/PIO nonsense, then " Acche Din Aane Wale Hain " will come for NRI's ..LOL

Chaiwallah Modi is the Prime Minister of Gujarat NOT of India..LOL ..just as Sonia Gandhi was the PM of Italy

Day care is expensive & NOT worth it if you are doing a minimum wage job .

Makes more sense to just stay home & raise your kid ..as opposed to paying for day care, as most of the money you make can go towards day care costs IF you are doing a minimum wage job & you have FULL day , daycare costs.

If you are doing a good job then its worth paying for daycare.

There are SOME subsidised day care centres available or some desis who baby sit for less. But the wait list could be long for these subsidised spots & vacancy could be pretty low for them.

Also if your kid is going to school , maybe you don't need FULL day day care , you probably only need it for 3-4 hrs a day, so the cost could be less. So if your kids school gets over at 3.00 pm , maybe you only need day care from 3.00 pm - 6.00 pm , so some PAID by you after school programs or day care might be provided in your kid's school.

School BTW is FREE , upto Grade 12 , so you have NO cost for school. Only after school day care, programmes etc.

Safety & life of your kid is the most important thing than cost , so you have to make sure the day care is good & trustworthy.
