Work, work, and more work depends upon the individual. Not everyone works 20 hours a day here in Canada. Moreover, North America, India or any other country - it's all about work. If you don't work then you're not good for anything even if you are in India. Try that...
In my opinion, Inner peace or peace of mind doesn't depend upon the country where you live.
Alike others above, I too have more peace of mind here in Canada than India even though my pockets are almost empty at the end of the month. Contrary to popular belief it's not money that makes you happy. This is what I think at least. Entirely depends upon the individual and couldn't generalize. Happiness lies in how much content you are in your life regardless of money, power, surroundings, etc.
I am happy and have a peace of mind, as I do not compare myself to others - no matter the situation and circumstances I am into.

One can only have inner peace when he/she is physically fit, eating good and quality food, breathing fresh air, having less stress, giving time for himself/herself and a family and having time for his/her hobby. I am presently in India and believe me very few people have enjoy luxury of all these. You can earn good money, you can have big salary, good car and a house but you will never be sure of what you are eating (home made or outside) is hygienic. You are not sure that the medicine you are taking is genuine, air is polluted, life is full of stress (very few enjoy a luxury of work life balance), not having time for yourself and your family. You are always afraid of biting mosquitos because of dengue etc. Roads are full of non sense people who are ready to fight on every minute. People almost forgot about the word “HOBBY”. When you ask this question, 90% will reply to listening to music as hobby and they only listen to music while going and coming from office in a car.
You might be at a very respectable position in India but your office is full of politics and stress. I know some of my friends at VP level reached office at 8 Am and leaves office not before than 8 PM. But yes there salary is no less than 50 lacs per annum
I have been following several posts in CD and what I could make out is that Canada can not give you high saving, high designation etc but surely can provide you with quality food, fresh air, having less stress, giving time for yourself and a family and time for your hobby and work life balance. What I could also make out after following various post in CD from last few months even if you are working on an hourly paid job which of say $12 per hour, you will not be having enough savings in your account, you will be on hand to mouth situations but you will still enjoy quality food, fresh air, having less stress, giving time for yourself and a family and time for your hobby. You children will get quality education and good health (All experienced CD, please correct me in case I am wrong).
I personally believe that inner peace and satisfaction one can not get from good saving, big cars, big house etc. One will always keep running for money and there is of no end to it.

already tried the dream of lakh rupaye ki job in india after getting bored from US life.
when I came back to Canada felt like rescued from disaster. even smallest things here felt like blessings.
know few others who went through same experience. even met with somebody who gave up US green card to go back to India looking for culture/family values etc etc....while in india when her expired green card renewed by embassy somehow..she said was the best thing ever happned in life.
have a close friend who went back to india missing his culture/family values and came back with double energy to enjoy life in canada.
summary "after lived here couple of years it is impossible to settle back home"
only way you can settle if you have lot of money and passport to come back here whenever you want some fresh air.
counting on lakh rupaye ki job to settle back home is a "sheikh chiili's" idea!
One word - Door ke dhol subhavaney. There's no such thing in India called 'Work-Life balance', regardless of whether you earn Rs. 10000/month or $1000000/month. And, unless it's there I don't think you can ever have a 'peace of mind'.
I used to work 7.30 AM to 8PM when in India in an IT company. Even after spending so much time and working hard company was very much in a 'khoon chooso' mode. This was the case of an MNC, and don't let me talk about a propertierships and a Desi companies. Less said the better. Fortunately, I have never come across this here in Canada having been worked in about 4 diverse companies. Go, figure. 8 to 4 here means 8 to 4 for whatever I have experienced with myself and couple of professionals I know about.
Again, Door ke dhol subhavaney!!
