Is that assuming you have to rent an apt or that you live with your parents in their house? how much do you think you will save on that income if u have to rent?

I don't care about saving. All I know is that if I had Rs1.25 Lacs per month, I would be able to manage a pretty decent lifestyle. A good apartment in Gurgaon for example rents for around Rs15,000 to Rs20,000 per month. If after taxes etc I get a net of around 80K pm, and deducting the rent I should be left with about Rs 60K to spend and save. I think I would be just fine with that.

So, are you giving me that? :D Chalo, in your case I will compromise. Let's say we close the deal at Rs 1.10 Lacs pm. What say you??:D

If I could give u that sort of an offer would I be sitting here and browsing Canadian Desi or would I be doing a Page 3 interview. :D

Say if a person was at senior managerial position in India and was between the ages of 40-50 when immigrated to Canada, will that person be able to get similar senior level job if that person returns back to India?

Let us say that person does some odd job for $8-10/hour in Canada. Will money in India really matter in this case? Getting a decent job when returning to India would be a big thing, I think.

Maybe if he returns soon after coming. Breaks in careers are difficult to explain when trying for senior positions. If he expects to go back after a few years, say 4 or 5, he will find it difficult(not impossible though) to get back on his career track anywhere near where he had got off. The longer this break the poorer the chances.

What I have said above is assuming that the "person" here works on a job that is on a lower scale than the one he had in India. Things could be radically different if the scenario had the person getting an equal or higher level of employment here. The latter case would pay outstanding benefits if he decided to return to India.

In fact, a few days ago, I was reading on the TOI website about the many NRIs going back to India in cushy top of the line jobs.

More than money it is the sense of failure that matters.

As I said, if the sooner the "manager" can drop the $8-10/hour job and go back, the better the chances that he will be able to resume where he left. But then, bowing to several pressures and keen to avoid the spectacle of ridicule if he returned a failure, the "manager" stays back.

Do people immigrate to Canada for more money in their late 40s/early 50s?

Right now...probably no amount.

Would not mind vacationing in India about twice a year though.
