I agree, i am coming anyway, going back to India will depend on how i like it there.
Can you let me know if $2150 after tax will buy me what i described or less.
Also should i take a break or continue job search on some other city with good prospects.

It is the Beef Capital of Canada. so if you have dietary issues it can be a problem. Plus it is a White MAjority Province with just handful of Desis. Notlike Ontario.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
Depending on your location and commuting distance the costs are going to be for your car.
You being a new driver will probably pay I think minimum 200 dollars cuz even being single does not help nor does being less than 25 years of age(I dont know if you are or not under 25 ).
I dont know how much you want to spend on a car so its difficult to say how much you will pay monthly but here check this site out and you can have an idea as to what you should buy.

Honda civic I think has three models
1-Hatch back (Cheaper but high on insurance)
2-Coupe
3-Sedan.

Hello Chittesh,
1) Alberta alone has lots of oil. (it is in sand is a different question) second only to Saudi Arabia.
2) AB is a beef country, but you can still buy vegeterian stuff. And cook yourself which is more cheap.
3) Finding work will not be a problem for you. Since all the big oil and gas companies need desktops and servers. Also once you have updated your resume on workopolis and monster the head hunter will find you if they need your services. So you do not need to worry about jop hunting with a full time job. I have always changed jobs when I was working.
4) Car insurance will be high but worth the investment if you want to stay here. Second hand cars are cheap but the main thing to look here is that any repair or anything with labour involved is a costly affair.
5) Dont worry about any discrimmination. You are always worth what you yield. And frankly I have never seen any discrimination. you need to know the basic ways and behaviour of folks in NA.
6) Calgary has good rail transit system and you should be able to commute or car pool to work fairly economically.
7) you should be able to get a good basement (look for walk out basements) in North East Calgary.
8) All in all you will enjoy Calgary. BTW the rockies are additional benifit.
Hope this helps.

Don't worry about food. You get vegetarian food in plenty. There are Indian restaurants also.
Plenty of Indians also although not as much as Toronto or Vancouver. For buying car, if you are new you might not get loan immediately. So come with your own money.
I am trying to buy a car like Honda Civic or Accord. You can get 92 or 93 model for around $6000 depending ofcourse on the mileage, condition & if you are lucky. Lots of people are moving to Calgary so cars & houses are expensive nowadays.
Overall it is a good place except for the cold & lack of social life initially.
Rgds.
Rajan.
