I got my PR in 2008. I first come Toronto in March'08. I am a IT professional and 10 years of IT experience in Power Builder,Oracle and Visual Basic. My Basic qualification is Computer Diploma and M.COM. I Stay 4 months in Toronto. I did some packaging and Subway job during my stay, hence I couldnot find any job in IT or Account field. then I came back to India in July'08 hence I had not resigned from my current job of India. Im working in IT department of good PSU company of Gujarat with the salary of Rs.20,000/- per month. Now my Pay revision is due and salary will become Rs. 35,000 per month with company's township residence and all medical fascility free. My Wife has done BSC(Micro),DMLT. she was working as Lab Technicia with the salary of Rs.8000/- per month but she left job while we came first time but can get the same type of job again in India.
And now I have one offer from Guelph, Canada of Convenience Store with net saving of $1000 per month with 80 Hour job of Husband and wife. This offer with my knowing person and we have to live with them.I am ready leave my IT field hence in It field I have to upgrade lot and its take lots of time and money.

As per my experience I feel even if you come back to canada try for IT job only . Every day is not sunday .Ups and downs will come. It takes time to get settledown in canada ,
Only IT job pays see good money.
Business it takes time to pick up.
Once you pass your 3 years life in canada , you will notice so much improvement in you from last 3 years.
Business you should be in position to spend time 24/7 in business , you have to scarifice your family time , in order to pay your business loans etc.
If you are rich then you can try in business, if you are middle class, then first get IT job and think parrallel on business.
In canada Once you have kids, then you have spend time with your family if not its useless earn big dollar , as kids does not have any relatives here.
If you don't have any kids, then my suggestion is come and try(don't keep in your mind that you can go back to india).Think you don't have any choice.
you have to leave in canada.
But it takes 1-2 years to settle down.
Its all you and your wife to decide to take risk or not.
Its all pure luck.
There are two ways to look at it :
1. Stay in India :
35K monthly + free housing is a terrific salary in India. Power Builder and VB is dead is North America. Oracle is hot but it again depends on what caliber you have in Oracle and in what position you were handling Oracle. You also might want to see what softskills you have. My guess is that , you being in IT and considering Convenience store for a profession in Canada, shows me that you are not confident , highly skilled or hi-fi. Again, this is just my guess.
2. Coming to Canada :
Guelph is a village near Toronto. Conveneince store is a drab job even for people who were clerks in India. It requires manual labour. You will need to clean the convenience store toilets, stack shevles, dust items, expect to cater to 10 people at the same time, shovel snow, replenish items, handle cash, monitor the video etc.. By the end of the day, when you go home, you will be fed up.
$1000 savings for both husband and wife is a big saving in India but not in Canada. Also you need to see what accomodation that they are giving you. Throwing you and your family in one room with common toilet is unacceptable. This is a kind of business that Gujarathi's do. Bring cheap labour from India, provide food and accomodation + $1000 and expect you to be happy.
I will list just some expenses in Canada.
Cellphone : $50 a month
Cable TV : Around $40 a month min.
Car Insurance : $100 a month (in Guelph) + Petrol at 75 cents (in guelph a litre)
Ticket to India (for one person) $1400
Milk 4 litre - $4-$5.67
1 pair of shoe - $20+ min.
1 Cauliflower $2.99
1/2 Kg Banana - $0.69
1/2 Kg Tomato - $1- $2
5 kg rice - $14 min.
In this senario coming to labour job is better. I can get you a labour job in Waterloo (near Guelph) for $10 $12 an hour and after a year $20 an hour (provided you are hired by the company and is subjective based on your performance and recession stage). It is assmenbling parts of a blackberry. Coffee + tea+ bread, butter, jam is free. A lot of Gujarathi's work in this assembly line. My guess is that your owner works here while he needs a dependable family to work in the store
Benefits in Canada:
Your children get free schooling (again, they will have many expenses like shoes, dress etc..)
Health care is free ( paid by taxes and health tax - for high er salary people)
The govt. gives some free money for people with low income. In your case, I would expect that you will get cash in hand which will not be taxed
The govt. gives $100 every month for children under the age 6
The govt. gives you loan to study which you pay back afterwards. But again, it will take a year for you to get admission to a course.
Bad thing about Canada :
Losuy health system
Too much snow / ice / cold season. You may fall into depression.
Cost of living is high.
Not much job oppertunities for Immigrants
My take :
If I were you and I was not buisiness minded, I would not come to Canada (for the job requested). There is not much career groth in conveneince store and actually (based on location) many conveneience store's are having very low income. There are just too many players. There are a lot of chinese who are doing this and even the owner is content in receiving $10 an hour profit (and many donot know english).
However, (if at all you ever decide to come to Canada) I would gather up money and come and settle in Mississauga and try totake benefits of various schemes that the govt of Canada is offering for immigrants. I would read Canadian desi from top to bottom to see how desi's have failed and suceeded and take my que from that.
Hope this helps
