In some provinces like BC they seem to consider foreign
driving experience to determine the premium.

I thought it is better to bring your car insurance documents
with you.

Thanks for all your feedback, i am looking forward to landing there as soon as complete my current project and my manager allows me to go on leave (Around Sep 15).

Is there a site where i can get to know how much insurace i have to pay for a car, lot of sites have info on 2nd hand cars but none which will give me insurance quotes based on my driving experience (or lack of canadian driving experience)

I had got an estimate from an agent for insurance since I am planning to buy a car in Calgary.

It depends on the make of car & year of manufacture. Other factors that might affect it are whether it is a 2 door or 4 door, sports car, van, colour (yes, colour too).

I got an estimate of $150 per month for a 4 door, auto, Toyoto Corolla if I had done the defensive driving course. Without it, it was $170.

If you are driving there & car insurance is in your name, do bring the record of no claim (if any) from insurance company for atleast 3 yrs. Also bring international driving license.

Rgds.

Rajan.

Why do you say "if i had done some defensive driving"
Do you mean that because you did not have no claim from India your insurace went up by $20
Also which is cheaper to insure Black or White.
2door or 4 door?

The important thing is that you have to bring a letter from an Insurance
company stating that you didn't have any claim for ccident for the period
your driving license is valid.

You don't have to worry much about insurance cost as most people seem
to afford car here in Canada even though it will be little expensive first
year.

Chittesh,

Here you have to undergo a 10 hr. road training & 16 hrs. classroom training in which they teach you defensive driving techniques & teach you about the rules. You have to pass tests also. This is the defensive driving course. If you have done this, your insurance goes down. So it means that if I have done this course then I would have had to pay $150 per month, otherwise $170 per month.

2 door is expensive. I am not sure about black or white. If your age is less than 25 then also insurance is more.

Thanks & regards.

Rajan.
