TK has given very good points and i can also talk from my experience.
I am fairly new immigrant and have completed my 2nd month in Canada and i am also in IT and have got a decent job (if not great), so as TK said; it depends how comfortable are you in your area/line and how ood are your communication skills.
Their are jobs in IT but you have to be good in what you do and have confidence in your abilities.
My honest suggestion will be to stay away from Convenience Store stuff.
Even if you make less money but work in your line(IT) then at least your long term prospects are good.

TK, again. You are by far the most funniest person on this board.
I think you have generalized a whole community based on one specific experience in too little time with too little thought.
I really feel sorry for that one specific experience in your life.

And now I have one offer from Guelph, Canada of Convenience Store with net saving of $1000 per month with 80 Hour job of Husband and wife. This offer with my knowing person and we have to live with them.I am ready leave my IT field hence in It field I have to upgrade lot and its take lots of time and money.
I want advice from the people of canadadesi.
1. Is it a good career opportunity with Convenience Store in canada or not ?
2. Can I get my own Convenience Store Franchise in 3 years of period ?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
If it is Husband 40 Hours and Wife 40 Hours, then it is 80 Hours per week and 4 +1/3 weeks per month at a basic wage of say $10/hr = $3440.00 +/- They both put together will get a sum of $1000.00 i.e. a third of the wage one would expect to get.
But if it is a sum of $1000 for both of them for a period of work of 80 hours per month to chip in during the month with (board?? and lodge-yes) room, then he will be left with the rest of the time to do what ever he pleases to do, might be worth considering. OP has to qualify his statement and explain in detail.
If at a later date the OP wants to leave IT field, if not successful, and take up a franchise, such as 7/11 - Mac's Jug Milk or any other convenience store he can do it. He has to come up with the required capital or look for one that is for sale. He can see them in Kijiji or Craigslist for starters. $36,000.00 that he earns in the next three years of his landing will not be sufficient to even foot the Franchise fee.
If the first statement is correct and with this kind of cheap labour, knowing that the OP and his family are stuck there, the current owner flips the shop and moves out, the OP and his family might easily get thrown out on the street or the conditions might get aggravated and leave them in the lurch.
To safeguard them, I would like to add, that they both should get a paid one way fare to get down here and also the same amount in CASH to return if circumstances change to the worst. Also ask a months pay in advance so that they will be ahead of the game and don't have to look for the handout, if they are unpaid after the first thirty days.
As regards getting a Mac's franchise at a busy bee location with all of the best there is at a strip plaza, I would ask him to post in the wanted side of the Canadian Desi. He has lots of time to pick it up.
Good Luck.
Freddie.
I can see what TK is saying after doing the simple math. You take the cake. I remember the story about the three tier sleepers in Birmingham, England with a heading that went like this AVAILABLE: "Accommodation at P.... Stackers" when K-mart was selling Patti stackers.

Seen TK always discourages Punjabi, gujju's and writes against Canada but when any south indian asks for advice he always talks very positive about Canada.
In one another thread, one south indian from middle east sought advice and TK was praising Canada.
TK needs to come out of all these after staying in Canada for couple of years.
Cheers!

Krazzyfour,
There are 2 kinds of people immigrating :
1. People who are in good jobs in India and thinking of coming over to Canada leaving the good jobs and with an uncertain future of working in labour shops / convenience store and they are not confident of their profession in Canada
To the above, any mentally stable person would of course advise him to rethink of coming to Canada. If you see all the posts , even Meghal, freddie suggested the same .
2. People who are in the ME who have earned a lot of money and who are desparate to come to Canada for their children's future and b'cos of their insecurity in the ME. A lot of these people say that they have done all the research and are going to come atany cost to Canada.
To these kind of people, since they already decided to immigrate, I would be giving them tips as to how they can do the best in Canada without wasting their time and money. I would be citing free healthcare, free handouts on the streets, dignity of labour, corruption free environ, odour free environ etc.. You also would have seen me ending it as "Welcome to the Frozen land" etc...
******************************************************
I agree that I made a mistake of stereo typing a particular commuinity for which I apologize. It would have been worded that there are people waiting to cheat people like him by offering him a job+ accomodation + $1000 monthly which is pure cheating.
Again, I would be the first to bash Tamils for all their wrongdoings. If you see my past post , you could have seen that I have chastised tamils for taking dowry (Does not apply to almost all Hindu's), for growing Mush, for their narrow mindedness etc.. I also have praised Tamils in the past for their stand like, Learning English instead of Hindi etc....
Hope this clears the foul air around me.
Peace by TK

Hey T.k. I like your postings to this board. You have a keen sense of observation. Based on this you fire away your first impressions. It carries a lot of weight. Others with a different view follow you with theirs. Now you have two views to look at. What I find admiring about the postings are, you have it stored it in the back of your mind and it comes out to the forefront. Wham, it hits us too, but a little while after. Your reaction time is good. From your observations....
Like Ian Flemming said
" Once is Happenstance,
Twice is Co-incidence AND
Thrice is Deliberance "
Now I wait and watch for the third incidence. If it ever gets posted here, the statement holds good. Now we have some thing more to look out for. Keep it up.
Freddie.
