There are no great 'laddoos' in canada and for someone like you, look at the future and see where india is going before you think about a stagnant economy like that of canada.

Mishra Jee, would you care to explain why you would call Canada a \\\\\\\"stagnant economy\\\\\\\"? I would like to hear facts and figures, not personal frustrations please.

Here you go tiger:
GDP growth in ca for 04 is 2.4%. compare that with 1.8% inflation, and you get 0.6 (SOURCE CIA WORLD FACTBOOK). Need i say more?

Of course you can throw data such as human development indexes etc, but we are not talking about averages here. We are talking about a specific case. Per capita GDP in india is USD 3.1K as compared to 31K in canada. So by this measure 8.5 lacs ie approx 18K USd, is about 6 times avergae GDP in india while 31K C$ is less than average GDP per capita in canada.

Now about future: IT sector in india is growing at 25%, at least. Latest salary report showed double-digit growth in salaries of IT pros in india (SOURCE NASSCOM.ORG). What salary/job growth do we see in CA, I am guessing enough to cover inflation ( i have no source here but i can bet that it is nowhere near India's). So future projections also show that the future is in india if you only consider career in IT.
There are other factors however that cause a person to leave india and I understand all that, but it makes no financial/tactical sense to go to canada for our protagonist. :)

Thanks for the tons of information guys,
MY qualification:
I am a BE and MCSE and CCNA and am working as a Business System Analyst/Project Manager in IT Infrastructure (Desktops, servers and so on). How is the job market there?

I am currently negotiating my salary with the bog bosses, hope they can do something for me...Once the negotiations are complete i will let you know the company name...

Another fact is that the company that i am working for overpays in India, and is very very famous for laying off.. 2 years back i was asked to find a job internally within 3 months or leave..Luckily i found a job internally...Now if i get laid off in India i can expect salary between 3.5 to 4 lakhs based on my skillset This is my worrk...if i lose a 50k job in Canada i will get a replacement jo which will be atleast 40k and it will not dramatically affect my lifestyele...

Regarding location they have said u have to go to Calgary or there is one office which is on the border with Buffalo (frankly i dont even know what location HR was talking about) i may settle for Calgary...

Opinions please

Hi,

Try to find out where near the border with Buffallo. Because Toronto and Buffallo are close by. In fact you may be better off being closer to Toronto.

In view of your Desktop and Networking experience I think Calgary should be good too and more affordable then Toronto.

Chittesh,

The factor of layoffs is everywhere & more likely in Canada & U.S. I know of one person who was to get a layoff if he did not find a internal job or another job in a major MNC oil sector because they were shifting jobs for his field (accounting) to Phillipines. He got an internal job & is now safe for the time being.

It is not necessary that you would get a job of 40 K after layoff here. Regarding your salary of 31 K per year, it works out to approx. $2500 per month. With tax deductions being high here, your take-home salary would be less. While you would be able to lead a comfortable life in which basic expenses are taken care of but you would not be able to lead a luxurious life in this salary which I feel you might be having in India right now. Not much scope for savings though.

Ofcourse there are lots of positive things about Canada like clean air & water, dollar-rupee conversion.

Regarding Calgary, I stay here. While it is cheaper than Toronto or Vancouver for housing, no provincial tax, there are certain things in Calgary where it is more expensive compared to other places. e.g. health care premium, auto insurance, etc.

Technology wise in the IT sector, I think you pretty much get the latest in technology in India too especially in the corporate sector you are into.

Personally though it would be challenging to adapt to a new environment & culture. You would really have to be tough in order to get going.

Remember "Isme tel nikal jata hai acchhe acchhon ka". For you however, coming with a job in your field right from the first day & since you are not married, it would be easier compared to other people.

For people like you, life would definitely be more fun here socially.

Thanks & regards.

Just so you know, the 'health care premium' does apply to Ontario too. Depending on income levels, it can be up to $1,000 odd per year.
