Of-late I have noticed that this forum has become more and more Canada bashing. I am not going to profess you on why Canada or India is better as I am not a subject matter myself. To each their own. Neither, am I writing this to find faults with India or Canada in each of it's nitty-gritties. However, for me and some other people this country elicits a mix feeling and emotions, which are by far quite natural.

May be stop momentarily, and introspect about:

1. How can you improve your quality of life and overall outlook towards your actions. Think for a moment if you are happy here? If not, please find a way to be. Even if it means leaving the shores all over again. Afterall, the objective is to be happy and successful. I personally feel that whatever may be the situation there's always something that could make you happy. Act on it and always be ready to take a hard-hitting bullet should that decision/act results in dissapointment. Afterall, no-one could predict future.

2. Try, try, try (I can't stress enough) hard until you succeed. Isn't this what we learnt in primary schools? We all heard about 'Ant's' story during our childhood. We must need to go back to basics. Nothing in this world could stop you from succeeding if you work hard.

3. Follow-up to 2. Have a perseverance and patience. You can't drop an eyelid and make your worries gone. The best remedy to all the immigration frustration is this (in order): sit back, analyze and introspect, breathe, stop complaining, which is the biggest deterrent to success, try to have patience while working REAL HARD towards your goal, and above all else Network.

4. Comparisons: Stop comparing to others as this is the biggest deterrent to success, unless you want to work as hard as any successful being. I am all for the latter. People come from diverse backgrounds, their upbringing, education, environment shape their life. No two people could be the same. A famous dialogue from Zanzeer comes to mind where Shashi Kapoor although poorer than AB could still hold his head high because as per him,'mere paas ma hey'. Moreover, grass always looks greener on the other side. No comparison, then.

5. Successful people: Think about how the successful people whom you see everyday were made out to be the one. Take yourself to their times when they first immigrated. Were they successful right after landing, or they also had to work real hard? If the latter, you get your answer. Compare with others - not with their present and what they have now, but their past when they were in your shoes.

6. Each one of us have got many good things in life, but still crave for more (human nature). Yes, there are rich people and poor. The only thing we could do is to work hard and then wait patiently for the results (which of-course is forthcoming). Sri Krishna summed it up, "Karmanye Vadhikaraste Ma Faleshu Kadachan'. Remember, there is no alternatives/short-cuts to hard-work. Be true to yourselves.

7. Embrace positivity and keep away from negatives: In my life, this proved to be the best way out when trying hard for my objectives. Yes, frustration does keep in, lingers in your head during failures. But remember, you learn from your failures. Try not to repeat those mistakes and take it as an experience. Noone in this world has it all. Positivity opens doors, shows the light. On the other hand, negativity negates anything that might even go right for you.

May be the above is not practical and just bookish. But, all I can say is that I practice the above everyday and found happiness (to some extent). 5 years ago, I landed with empty pockets having only an ambition. I also struggled, sometimes fatigued myself, but the above kept me going. My struggle was prolonged (despite of being an IT Prof. for those who say it's easy for IT people) but at the end I found success. I can't say I am quite well settled and still struggling to some extent but the above helps me a lot.

Thought to share. May be a break from Canada/India bashing threads. My point was not letting all of you to love/embrace Canada, but rather working hard and being happy/content. May the success be yours.

Canada bashing is also part of "MANDI KA DAUR". Actually I feel major cause of problem for immigrant frustration especially for people from India is that while the new immigrant has changed in terms of choices and wants, the iimigration point system has not, which actually targets and filters educated, settled, richer middle class from corporate India, whereas in Canada they only need drivers, carpenters, welders and the like. Imagine a carpenter or driver's chance from India to get thru the complex Canadian immigration requirement which includes TOEFL exam etc. So problem starts there. Also since 95% of these filtered immigrants are married with kids, when they move they take a very expensive and life changing decicion. For example in my case it cost me $15,000 for moving first time to Canada, loss of job $1200/mth equivalent in India, plus risks and problems of jobs etc. I exhausted all my money in about 6 months of landing (another $6000-8000) despite earning $2000 a month in Canada because the dollar has no buying power. Everything is over-expensive and rent eats 60% of your salary. OK I will stop my story right here.

While India developed rapidly after 1993 with Manmohan Singh opening up the vast economy, I feel Canada being a US dependent economy is still stuck in late 80s. The country is western but only dependent on natural resoources export i.e. cutting trees, digging mines, oil and the like and almost all goes to US. Its like Africa amongst the western world. So while the economy makes money by selling its resources it has practically no mid-size industry. Major US steel and car plants in Canada being shut, the joblessness is very much there and the govt is paying tons of social benefits and EI because it still have money from selling natural resources.

So while a war refugee from Somalia will thank God and love living here and getting paid thru benefits, a middle class educated professional from India will never be satisified if he cant get a job in his field and make at least double of what he made back in India. Since Indians today are more smart, educated and knowledgable and dont want to be taken for granted, these systems of luring and duping will not work for long. They will take next flight back but for some there is no way back as they sell off their homes to come here.

I like Canada for its cold weather, good governance, lesser corruption and systems. If I can make good money here I will never leave. And good money with pride in similar profession not by doing anything for money. Icant bet that all frustrated immigrant actually dont want to go back but miss the life they had back home.If they get even 50% of what they had back home, I think no one will like to go back to the heat, corruption and crowd that has become so prevalent there. India is a great but poor country inhabuted by rich people, Canada is a great but rich country inhabited by mostly poor people.Thatsums it up. Cheers.
