Do what is best for you. Good luck.

So you accept the fact that NAMO will be next PM of India and will do better for the country . Not AK-49

Looks like TK did not have to approach government offices staff for getting any work done.

Last month, I had to go to a district hq in TN, to the state government college where my son studied. Even though it has been 9 months since he has passed and come out, the staff had not issued his TC, Conduct, Degree and other certificates which were necessary for getting admission for his PG studies.

Since my son had tried his luck during the last 9 months and lost, he requested me to go the institution. It was overnight journey, to and fro and lodge stay costing more than Rs.1000/-

What was hardly a 5 minutes work for the staff took the entire day and I could come out only by 6.30 PM but successfully armed with the certificates. Sometime around 5.00 PM with the evening Sun beating on my face while waiting in the corridor I started getting self pity. I had already given up on completing the job and was brooding over the loss of money and time spent, when somebody somewhere in the office, while leaving for home, took pity on me and gave the certificates by 6.30 PM. They also chided me for turning up at the office "without prior information" as it was "exam time".

My questions were
(1)Is there any time other than "exam time" in a premier government education institution of more than 1000 students? and

(2)If the staff did not find time to hand over certificates for students who had passed in April 2013, even till Feb 2014, when and where were they going to find the "time"?

But as discretion is better part of valor, kept the questions to myself and spoke to them respectfully all through the day.

May be that won the day (right at the end of the working day) for me.

On their part, the government college staff had perfected the art of humiliating the public if and when they approach the staff to get any work done. At least, half a dozen staff would have politely told me "Wait Pannunga Sir (Please Wait Sir)" at least a dozen times till 6.15PM, the thought never crossing their mind that the poor thing was waiting from 10.15AM.

Generally, government servants still live in the British days when we were treated like slaves.

At least we have a chance to remove Modi or Rahul Gandhi, if we do not like them. What can we do with government servants with severe attitude problems? The kind of work they do with the skills they have, it is not worth more than 10$ an hour by American standards.

Just wish to share the experience, as our NRIs, when they relocate, may have to swallow their pride and humbly wait at government offices.

Ramar:
If you had to wait for just the certificates from a govt. educational institution (which is relatively very easy to handle), then think about how long you will have to wait in other offices.
I am lucky as I live in a place where most of the men have gone to the Gulf and population is really low and I am fortunate to get the services of Gas, Aadhar, licence without much work.
may be I will suffer when I do a land / house tranaction, but I am not there yet.

Peace by Murali

Its a good step (don't want to call it a decision) that you've set your foot in India.
Had you moved to a different country, challenges would have been innumerable (esp.., Middle east). When it comes to India, we seem to accept the irregularities and learn to adjust with. It wouldn't be the case with a third country.

India should consider granting the Indian citizenship to OCI after 10 years. I think it will happen. If some one wants to contest for a constitutional post, he should give up any foreign citizenship but why to sketch everyone with the same brush.

Recently been to local Thasildhar office. Find people gate crashing and falling head over heels to get community certificate claiming backwardness under some caste or other. While governments say they are bent upon removing caste, among the people, the opposite is happening, which is shocking.

There is no room for people who can compete only on honesty, hard work, merit etc. Do not mean to say it lacks in anybody, but good qualities alone are not sufficient. People have to be street smart, if have to survive in today's India.

We moved couple years back from Canada. Never regretted the decision. It was planned years back for the move as we have to take care of seniors in our families. In fact I am taking care of my uncles/aunts also as my cousins have settled in the west.

Took some time to settle down in our own native city. As we were used to North American lifestyle, we observed that here things take its own time to be done. Lot of patience is required with some frustration also. But we are among our relatives (good and bad) and good old friends. I am on my own doing some consulting work. Overall we made the right decision. There are plus and minus, but we are living in our city / country.

My case too would be almost identical, but worried about my children and grandchildren becoming victims of the reservation policy being adopted. But we can't help. Each country has its own Achilles heel.
