Hav'nt we already touched on this topic a zillion times before?
Have to agree with TK here, though. It all comes down to having a good job in the end. And the so called 'good job' is based on not WHAT you know, but WHOM you know, for the most part. How else would you explain a friend of mine, being here for just two months and landing a government job, only because he knew someone there.
And the saga continues...................

Now the question then is........if they want to take care of their own people, why call us.....to do their menial work? then why insist on skilled workers?

Fido.
Iceberg,
My expectation from the immigration process is the same as all......in terms of early and easy settlement eventually leading to the wonderful retired life that is the promise of Canada.
To the others who replied to my mail (especially TK - who drips sarcasm )
I shall again rephrase my post for a better understanding:
Would the same immigrants have faced the same problems had they immigrated to any other country? Like lack of English, Indian manners and clothing woes, lack of knowledge of the local life.....all constants at the beginning
What has led to the severity of the problems is that :
- people have migrated directly without jobs in hand
- people did not possibly do enough research
- they used up all their life savings
- they therefore settled for lower jobs
- they were unprepared for doing all chores by themselves (since even the lower middle class in India have household help of some kind)
- they met too many other immigrants in the same boat
- they could not find a meeting ground for their expectations and reality
- people felt cheated- they started being dissatisfied with everything
- the education system, the locals, the racism etc....
- to crib and groan and moan is a part of the desi culture now - you have to join in or be left out
Again here - my point is not to offend or insult or argue (its just to debate)
So the crux of the matter is :
The migration process is a life changing or making decision. It cannot be taken easily. For eg. when people come from UP or Bihar to Mumbai - they find it difficult to find jobs due to their accents and style of overall presentation - then within a few years - they learn and adapt and assimilate.
I also see the same in Canada -
People who have lived long enough, do find a job eventually and do settle down finally. Those who come well prepared with jobs in hand - or with an understanding of the ground realities - have a good chance of settling down.
So then, who is to be blamed? Is it the Canadian government? Or is it the Indian immigrant who comes there without any financial security? Take a situation - you are the boss in Chennai- you are hiring - you are tamilian - two people with same qualifications are shortlisted - one is a local tamilian who understands the culture and the clients - the other is a bengali from Bengal who doesn't undertand the Tamil culture, food, taxes, system, politics. Who will you hire?
I can assure you, that even in India, people who leave their jobs and then try and find another job have to take a pay/position cut.
The only problem in the Canadian immigration system from my layman point of view is - that they are allowing people to go there just by showing funds. Elsewhere in the world, the immigration process is usually to work/study there and then apply for PR, in which case the settling down is easy and hasslefree.
Again, all of the above is an "outside looking in" view........and perspective is all about where and which angle you are lookin from.......so maybe, my views when"inside and looking around" may differ.....
