and those of you who really wonder whether you are Indian or not, why dont you ask this question to the govt of India?
Do they consider you Indian?
Are they giving you Indian passport......so are you Indian or not?

I also have 50 lacs in India as deposits coz of better rates of return . NRI deposits are not direct investment but indirect . Lower the rate of return to 2-3 % and you will find it vanish away .
Great .... now if you get better return in Zimbabawe ... will you invest ... are you "Canadain "neighbours investing in India .... this is where the difference of investment from NRI comes .... you see if there is some peoblem in India ... lets say there is chance of a war or sustained civil unrest ... what will happen to the investments from FDI ..... it will fly away .... while as your will stay longer as you are what is happening in India.
Last time when there was a possibilty of war with Pakistan , a lot of foreign comapanies repatrited their staff and if things had gone bad they would have done the same with their capital .....
Also in 1990 before FDI was allowed NRI's were putting their money into India....

Here the question is for sense of feeling Indianness or feeling pround for Indian heritage not technically having passport of India. Sunita was given Indian visa. Indian PM invited her to Delhi.

I don't know why, but Gujaraties forgot to praise one actor called \"Krishna Bhanji\"
See, No body noticed this comment. Now I have to write \"Ben_Kingsley\".
Before you raise eyebows let me tell you that his father was \"Gujarati Ismail Khoja\" and mother was white. What he himself is, I don't know.
I am wondering the question is raised what Gujarati's do and what they dont do?
Looks like an effort to embarass Gujju's by raising such question. I dont think to answer this question. You have to clarify the name of a person even nobody on this forum knew that Krishna is Ben Kingsley and I dont know how many Indians(better word than Gujaratis) know the profession of Ben Kingslay.

Sir ,
Please rethink over for a minute ~ a person who was born to a Slovenian mother and an Indian father who married a non Indian lady ~ born and brought up in the US , studied throught in the US ~ worked in the US , has been married to an American , came to India after 9 years ~ what kind of sense of belongingness do you think she retains - I doubt if she even knows her mother tongue .
As far as the Govt is concerned - make no mistakes - they are doing the best they can to get whatever money they can from NRIs - unlike some countries where you can maintain 02 passports India does not allow you the same privilege.
I was shocked to find that NRI s are not eligible to participate in Post Office schemes which offer a good rate of return . There are a different Investor category.

Till a few years back no one recognised PIO's . We all would talk of NRI's as they were Indian citizens and it is only later that the government relaized what a vast resource it is (PIO's) ..... That is the reason they have started issuing PIO cards .... almost giving a foreign national (of Indian origin) all the rights of a citizen (in terms of investment / employment ) ... still there are areas where it is not allowed ..... with time that will also ease out.
