Including our PM Dr. Singh (forget him; Sonia Gandhi decides which colour pagadi he has to wear).

Your comment is unbelievable. Is this an offshoot of some caste-ism you have ? She apparently considers herself to be of indian origin..what is your problem? Since I have not been born in India..does that make ME less Indian?

I disagree. A person can be an indian at heart...it is not their fault if they are not born in India. It is their embracing the culture and values.

I am not just a canadian.

She is an American (of Indian and Slovanian origin). She is taking advantage of Indian mentality, claiming to be of "Indian origin". Why not say Slovanian origin also? And why people fail to see that she is also of Slovanian origin? Lets say that her dad was of Slovanian and mom of Indian origin. What will she do? Go to Slovania where no one gives a damn to her? Nah. She would have ran to India knowing fully people will bow to her.

You are currently in India correct?

Being in the environment...... with a different perspective (because having lived elsewhere does change one's perspective somewhat).. what is your feeling/view about indian masses/media's perception on celebrities..or other 'successful ' people?

I get the sense from some of your other posts that i have read that there is a lot you are not very happy with.

Please let me know when Laxmi became a British Citizen. I always love to take this guy's example by citing the fact that despite living in the UK and having built an empire from there he still holds an Indian passport.

I need to understand some fundamentals here please -

A person who leaves India for another citizenship - has nt he /she embraced another country and forsaken his own - A LN Mittal (despite being an Indian citizen ) is no Ratan Tata and a Sunita Williams is no Rakesh Sharma . If he / she were so concerned about their country and its welfare - why not return and contribute ---- doing anything else appears to be lip service - Yes I love India , I am proud of India but no I prefer to stay in XYZ because India is inundated with poverty / politics / pollution ........

When a person has been for 02 generations in Canada - no exceptions please just the norm ~ how much culture and Indianness does he / she retain ? More so if you have non Indian parent and spouse ?? - You would not even be knowing what are the latest issues in India .

Is Sunita Wiliams an Indian even by the farthest count - she is an American astronaut in every sense of the word . If that is the case where s the reason for Indians to celebrate ?? Every reason - if she decides to return back and work in India - coz that wil prove that she s willing to aid in India's progress . But before that and sitting afar and returning after 9 years ....... hmmmmmmmm

These may be my views but as in a forum everyone puts forward his own views.

Note that there are millions of Indians, by virtue of birth and domicile, who would rather be in the US or Canada or some other such country.

What about them? Are they 'Indian'? Is the American/Italian working in India more 'Indian' than us because he is 'aiding' India's progress.

How about a hot button? Why cannot sonia gandhi be the PM. She has been living in india, even dressing up like an Indian...calls herself an Indian etc. She is probably more indian than many of the posters (judging by their own yardstick).

Sunita Williams may not be clear on what she thinks or feels (those feelings constantly being reevaluated just like the rest of us thinking beings are always in a state of change)...forget about the OP knowing about how she feels.

Maybe we just need to chill out and focus on the achievements instead of passing judgment on people's 'thinking' (which we have no real clue about and are only guessing). I don't think any of us can decide on who IS or is not an 'Indian'(whatever that means). But many of us will anyway :D
