Your knowledge is goverened by your views ..... you have made up your mind that anyone leaving India will not do anything for India.
Well here is something that Mittal is doing for Indian sport .....http://mittalchampionstrust.com/athletes.html. An initial funding of $9 Million.... hope now you consider Mittal Indian enough
While we are at it would like to know about your views on Indianess of Info .... they are planning to set up a BPO in Mexico .... is that Indianess taking Indian jobs to Mexico, mind you this center is not to cater to Mexico clients .... it is for US market ....... Guess they are moving there for "economic "reasons .
So you consider this action Indian enough ......

It was her decision ..... remeber the first time BJP government collapsed after 13 days ... she had gone to the president with the claim to be the PM ..... but not having the right numbers , the parliament was dissolved and new elections were called for. The second time round when congress was going to form the government, she decided not to be the PM..... it was her choice .......
Just to set the record straight.

For sure. I was refering to the HUGE debate on CD whereby people said that She was not an 'Indian'. It has been mentioned even after.
In other words I am not questioning the historical facts.

In the wider context, wrt this topic, I am questioning the rationale behind people deciding who is and who IS not an 'Indian' based on 'guessing' what the other person 'thinks' or 'feels'.

We ARE a gifted lot are'nt we :D ?

True. ethnic identity is usually defined as how one sees themself and what group they identify with. This could be based on birthplace, parental heritage etc.

My question is can anyone make a list of what is an 'indian'? what characteristics or criteria are looked for?

Lets not drift from the real topic. Its all abt the lady who thinks she is "Indian". Why others fail to see that she has the Slovanian blood too? One need to read the articles and see the pictures to understand how Indians (mainly Gujjus) behaved and pampered the lady for no reason.

OTOH, Mr. Mittal still holds the Indian passport (I have met him once). Hats off to him. He is doing a lot to India unlike the lady who thinks she is "Indian". Shame on her, if at all she has one. An ABCD/S (S for Slovanian) suddenly remembers her fathers native country after the space trip? Why not before. Oops! I forgot. She did a flying visit 9 yrs back. Come on. Not everyone is a bakra.

The real topic is probably your justification of what you 'think' Sunita Williams 'thinks' or 'feels'. I dont think the real topic is if Sunita Williams is an 'Indian' or not.

An example...there was a man who, received education in London(law?), considered himself to be a 'British patriot' until an 'awakening' in a foreign land(where he spent almost a decade). Then decided to come back to India and lead the freedom struggle. Mahatma Gandhi.

People change. Situations change. Feelings change. Loyalties change. Change is constant.

'Change' if it does stop in a human context, stops only in the graveyard.

So what exactly are we debating? If Sunita williams 'feels' more Indian now than she did a few years ago? Or are we debating her 'right' to this 'feeling' or 'thinking'? Or are we debating if she is 'lying' to take advantage of gullible indians?

Or do we just KNOW? :D ...better than anyone else how exactly things are. And how wrong 'gujjus' are to honour Sunita Williams. Maybe you are right...maybe not.

ok thats it for now...have fun.

;)
