Puttoo ,

Maybe its a different perspective with which you are seeing things - I dont deny that - but to me all this all hoopla appears to be a lip service - I can also claim that I love India and am proud of being an Indian ..... but an average Indian villager would ask me ---- ' Then why did you go away .... why don't you return ? so that you become more Indian ' - and I d have to be honest ' Yeah I am proud of my Indian heritage but I shunned it for a better future abroad - I forsake my Indian ness , my culture (more so in my offspring) for my own selfish sake '.

I do not expect that Indian villager to be proud in that - if he feels proud about it (which is what the OP is about ) then there s something wrong with the villager - reminds me of hindi movies like - Sagina Mahto or Massey Sahib where 'brown sahibs' used to lick the toes of 'gora sahibs' in the pre independence era .

Rightly I (and for that reason you also ) do not deserve to be called an Indian anymore . You and I are Indo Canadians and 02 generations down the line they would be Canadians and you and I would be responsible for the transition .

Well Naseer Hussains mom is a white women(though to be fair to her , she did convert to islam).... if that is a yardstick then you should have not have been proudly calling him "gaon ka admi" ..... after all he never came back to your gaon .... or did he .......
Just for my interest if a south indian marries a gujuu what would you like to call their children .... will they be south indian or gujjus ..... answer it honestly

Well then the question i would like to ask you is .... what in your opinion is Indian hertiage ...... if you think by leaving india you have shunned indian heritage .... then this whole discussion is fruitless and you are right ..... if indianness is only achieved by staying in India, then this whole argument about Sunita willams is pointless...... then she is not Indian at all .....

And why her trip is not celebrated in Slovania? Why are they not papmering her like the Indians (mainly Gujjus)? After all her mom is of Slovanian origin? Becuase THEY DONT GIVE A DAMN.

Exactly what is your problem here? That she's being honored or that she married a white guy and insulted your version of "Indianness"? What comes across from your posts in this thread are some pretty hypocritical (and terribly average) views, so can you explain who in your esteemed opinion people in India should honor vs. who they should not? Should they honor Deepak Chopra? How about Laxmi Mittal (he's a british citizen)? Dr. Sanjay Gupta? Vinod khosla? I can name 50 other people but you get my gist...

Did you ever give any thought to the fact that given the fact that her Dad is of Indian origin and she's a woman who at a young age has achieved way more than the majority of us will in our entire lifetime, she may be a great role model for young girls in India? Irrespective of anything else? You also seem to have an inferiority complex with regards to the Sloveniens. You keep bringing them up, so let me ask you this. In your head, if they had celebrated, would you be ok with the treatment she's getting in India?

And is Manmohan Singh a "gujju"? Cause he invited her to New Delhi. I'm shocked a "true indian" like yourself is so acutely inclined to focus on a community in every post.

Being called an Indian is a tag. The sound waves originating from someone's vocal chords that either call you an Indian or deny that you are one mean absolutely nothing.

Many ex-Indian citizens and their foreign born childern are proud of their heritage and roots without requiring people to "call" them Indians. And therefore when someone who has descended from that heriage in whatever shape or form achieves something, it is natural for people in India and NRIs to feel about it. The achievements become cause for celebration and if you don't agree, that's fine, but don't vilify others for feeling that way.

And this sentiment isn't exclusive to Indians. Russians, Italians, Polish, Spanish, Portugese all share it in varying degrees.

LOL. As per your post I feel whenever your kids will achieve something your relative doesn't have right to celebrate only your wife's relative has the right to celebrate? And if by mistake your relatives celebrate it you will curse them.
Please dont take this personal my friend this can apply to anyhody who follow your thory.
