I agree with DIO - if she s not Indian why are Indians going gaga over her ?? fading shades of colonialism ...

It is very clear !!! All these so-called Indian by hearts achieve things abroad but never get the Star status and media attention.. So their easiest destination is India !!!!!!!!!

I think whatever sunita is achieved its really amazing. She spent more than six months in Space. its not a jock.

So Mr. DIO if you did'nt like whatever she did than better keep quite and seat at home nobody is bothering you to right something rubbish about anybody.

At least she is INDIAN and INDIA is always GREAT, not now but forever..............

I do have a problem with desi media (and the news consumers) when Sunitha Williams eating samosas in space gets front page in India while an Army Jawan who had won a veer chakra in Kargil, died in a firefightr with the Mujahideen gets two lines in page seven. He also had a hand in capturing the Bana post. Only Indian Express carried an article about him.

Though I did want to continue the discussion, I cant resist this. How many times i n all her life in USA she has taken aprt in the independenace day parade? Why now? Suddenly she is remembering India? We r not bakras. Most of us can read thru her. All these hoopla will die down in a couple of days after she leaves India.

Do you have any information on how many times she attended the parade? It seems you have assumed that she would have not attended. Anyway she will be an Indian for a lot of people. you like it or not. And this "will" die down once she goes back after all do you hear of Rakesh Sharma these days

Never thought that a 2 liner from DIO will translate into a 3 page (as of now) tit for tat retaliation.
Sunitha Williams might have been born in America and brought up there but she was born to Indian Parents and who themselves were born to pucca Indians born in a village. IMO, She is just a ABCD trying to find her roots. There is no doubt in my mind she would have been fed with curd rice and mingled with her parents friends (Gujjus) when Sunitha was brought up. I am also sure that her mother would have told stories of how good life was in Gujarat Villages and how her MIL illtreated her. She would have also told Sunitha about the life in Villages, how one milked the cows , made cow dung and Cobar gas and how people took the bullock cart to see villages. They might have even gone to India a couple of time and used the fields to go to ease themselves before dawn b'cos lavatories were not available at those times. As time went by she should have been mentally attached to India and by the constant reminder of the talk by her mother might have imagined some of her mother talk as what had actually happened in her childhood life. This is a very common phenomenon and that is the reason that she had eaten Samosa's, participated in the NY parade and had gone to India. i.e. to search for her imaginary roots. If she really would have had a real root, she would have atleast given back to the country which enabled her father to migrate to USA like setting up a school/orphange/ free hospital/ libary in the village of her father or grandfather.

I am also sure that she would have dated desi's and after some time felt that she must marry a white skinned guy to come up in life which she ultimately did. Also being in NASA did not / does not make her a God. She is just an ordinary person just like us and maybe she is dumber than some of us in the forum. She just had the chance (by providence or otherwise) to be in profession which is that of a rocket driver, where the number of rocket drivers are far less when compared to any other positions in the world.

Also responding to the Op's post that Gujju's are smart guys, I humbly beg to disagree. Gujju's are the same as Tamils, Bihari's, Kannadiga's etc... If the Tamils prostrate to Jayalalitha then Gujju's have the Hindu-Muslim feeling / Godhra riots and kannadigas hate Tamils due to the Cavery water issue etc.. Each clan has his own plus points and drawbacks.

Also to respond to the OP's comments, I donot belive that Sunitha had Indian or even any thing remotely like that. She just came for her imaginery roots and the Gujju's released one more of their shortcomings i.e. Hero / Heroine worship. That is all. Nothing more or less. I belive that Tamilians had started relasing this hero / heroine worship from 1957 or so when CN Annadurai was made the CM of TN. After that it was all the people who were hero worshiped (except for Kamaraj) who are / were the CM of TN. Examples would be MGR, Jayalalitha, Karunanithi.

Comparing her to Rakesh Sharma is an insult to him and Indians. After all, she is an American married to a white guy. Since no one gave a damn to her space trip, visited India (after 9 years) for a week of fame (doing this is a shame).

Finding her roots? Why now? Why not in the last 9 yrs (she visited India in 1998).

"...to search for her imaginary roots" . So true, amen to that.

"rocket driver". ROTFL. Great.
