MR,
I am not sure if you know this but USA has a lot of jobs for people due to it ecomony and they pay good money. There is also not the discrimination that you will find for people with foreign qualification. That is why many flock there or tend to try to flck there.

DT:

So what I hear you saying is that it shows lack of self respect to admit you are living in a financially tight situation? Do you feel that people should hide this or pretend they make a lot?

Nope. What I'm saying is that life has its ups and downs but that doesn't mean that we start washing our dirty laundry in public (as our friend TK). What you make or don't make is surely your business, why would you want to let other people onto the knowledge?

Sure they do. But do you think USA gives two hoots about its Permanent Reisdents? The number of New Immigrant settlements services available in Canada is mind boggeling, specially for someone like me who has for years faced the indifferent attitude of the US Govt. towards non-Americans.

DT,
USA does not have an immigration policy such as Canada (except for green card lottery). So you canot equate copper with gold.

My point exactly! So would you please stop comparing the job markets in the US vs. Canada? It's two different countries and two different economies we are talking about

Any plans to leave the Ghetto?

Not that I was ever in a Ghetto, FYI I am in Mississauga. Also, I've had a few bad experiences in the USA just like I've had some in India and even in Canada. That has nothing to do with my take on the States. I personally would never move back there as I donot stand for American attitude towards Immigrants.

And the services that these settlement services offer is of course very questionable. They have none at the airport.
TK

Do you have any idea what a facility at the Airport costs? A Non profit organization doesn't have the means to rent a booth at the airport for the singular purpose of providing info to new immigrants which is already available online.

True that foriegn trained professionals may find it easier to get a job in the States, but what about the other discrimination that immigrants (specially of color) face in the US? Also, getting a job in the States is one thing, becoming a permanent resident is quite another.

TK,

Your primary article makes complete sense to me and I agree with you on most of the issues (except like transportation to immigrants from airport or giving garage sale stuff...:L )

If engineers, doctors, CA, etc. are not required, then why give them immigration points. Why don't give more points to trade people (though they will also have to take license). Also, why not start some program, so that which ever profession require license, etc. people can take those (full or partial) license in their home country.

It takes 3-5 years to get the Visa (which is also not sure thing and people get very little communication from embassy), so planning is also difficult (but yes everybody should do planning and don't ASSUME as DT says). I myself is guilty of ASSUMING too much. Prospective immigrants listen to DT, he is making very good point.

Where am I wrong?

USA has a higher population = more opportunities and more competition. They have different requirements for professional associations/registration. There is a different business culture etc.

It is also not true that every occupation is paid higher in the US than in Canada.

I agree. I dont care for their term of "alien" for people that are non - immigrants. Words often reflect attitude.
