For the same reason a large number of immigrants come to Canada - They think life is all fun and games here and money grows on Trees. It is a general misconception that just becuase the Canadian $ has more value than the Indian Rupee, people living in Canada are wealtheir and since Indians are more prone to the "Monkey See Monkey Do" syndrome than any other ethnic group on the planet, we see a mass immigration from India based primarily if not solely, on this assumption.

In my point of view, immigration to other Countries is an International Educative gambling, we may win or loose, its all about your skill set on gambling…………

Canada is the only country which bloats up it labour requirements and just bring in immigrants without seeing if they are able to settle people with decent jobs. Why does this country have to bring in 250,000 people from around the world when social organaisations tell the govt. that Canada still has a long to go in even removing the barriers of foreign trained professionals being recoconised .
Why does the govt. always tell that Canada has an aging population and only that immigrants can fill the shortfalls in the labour markets when :
1. No shortfalls on professionals jobs are seen as on date
2. Barriers still exist big time in recogonising foreign credentials (other than IT)
Imagine , a country which brings 250K immigrants each year and there is no settlement services at all at the airport. What kind of discrimination is this? How do they expect people to find jobs when there is no service to even bring them out of the airport?
TK

TK: For refugees and refugee claimants who are in dire need because they have no resources, airport pick ups can be arranged (through refugee serving organizations.

Secondly - the number of immigrants fluctuates - it is ideally 1% of the population. Of these, not all are professional immigrants on the point system. There are family class sponsorships, adoptions, refugees, and business immigrants that come to invest.

Canada *does* have an ageing population with the majority slowly creeping over the age of 60-65. The birth rate is lower because the structure of family is changing. Women are having less children or no children. Immigration is seen as one way to counter this. Of course I dont believe the govt is perfect.

I found an interesting article online written by someone at Queen's University:
http://jdi.econ.queensu.ca/Publications/Immigration.html

Can you please tell me what countries bring people from the airports anyway?

MR,
Relatives ask for electronic itemsand other things not b'cos it is not available in india (now a days) but b'cos they can get it Free of Charge.
They assume that people in USA earn in Lakhs (which is true) and they assume that all people in Canada earn in Lakhs (which is not true).
Even when i tell my relatives that i live hand to mouth, they donot belive me.
Now with so much goods in india and the purchasing power of the indians , tehy donot ask for silly stuff as camera's , watches, walkman etc.. .They do however ask for Laptops, Camcoder, I pods etc..
TK
Sidenote : The last time i had been to India, i gave most of my relatives stuff purchased from garage sales as well as food items like canned beef, canned fish, soup powders, chocolates etc.. Easy on my credit card.

MR, Imagine you are immigrating to a new country under an immigration policy set by the govt. . Do they not even have commensense as to how these people will find a place to stay? Of course immigrants will pay for it.
If you go on a job to USa or gulf or to even studies, do they expect you to find the university/ job place yourself? In the case of jobs, the employers meets you at the airport and in the case of studies, the international students wing arranges to meet you.
Are you expected to know someone in Canada to immigrate?
When i arrived in the GTA, i found the airport to be the same as malaysia or singapore (which does not have immigration). There was one booth for tourist information and it was closed (4:00 pm on Sunday). There was also a lady who gave the new comer guide and this near the immigration. I took a cab to the nearest hotel .

There you go again, what did I tell you about "ASUUMING" things? Do you know for sure that everybody in the States earns in Lakhs and EVERYBODY in Canada doesn't? A person earning $60,000 a year earns in lakhs (unless the bottom has fallen out of the exchange rates in the last day or so :D ).

Is their disbelief related to your story? Maybe they are just having trouble grasping the fact that you are actually so devoid of self respect to claim that you live hand 2 mouth?
