Are we living in a rip-off country...............this is ridiculous.........thursday night I went to the gas station to fill up, a liter which was $1.22 a few hours before was $1.36, just because there's a hurricane bearing down in TX. No protests, no demonstrations, nothing..............people just grumbled a bit and went along with their lives, as if everything is fine as before. Are Canadians really stupid? Most probably the corporations are aware about this, that's why, they don’t think twice before ripping them off, be it the banks (sky high service charges and bank fees), oil companies, cell phone companies (system access fee), you name it..............
No wonder people move to US once they get fed up with the system here.

Well, you are right with your own perception. But all are not stupid. I am sure, there would be many like me, who has never bothered to look at the prices of items of daily living/necessity. And precisely, because of this, I have never found difficulty in coping up with expenses.

These things would always happen and I have a very clear cut funda in life. DONT LOOK AT THE PRICE, WHILE BUYING GROCERIES, GAS etc...

This has reminded me of my olds days..he he.. I used to smoke in those days and the price of the cigarette which I used to regularly smoke (WILLS), went up by I think 25 paise. My friend told me, let's start a cheaper one now (BRISTOL, ya I remember now). You know, what did I do??? I went and bought GOLDFLAKE, a brand, which was costing 75 paise more then the WILLS. We smoked that for couple of months and went back to buy WILLS, we found it cheaper!!!

This attitude has helped me a lot in my life overall. It may not be true and reality for others. I just shared, what are my thoughts.

"MORE INCOME is the only remedy for MORE EXPENSE". You can't cut corners to live your life.

VJ.

I'm sure Corporate Canada Loves You! Unfortunately, I have to agree with sumjo that any self respecting individual will find this daily gouging at all levels, simply an insult to one's intelligence. But hey, you seem to be ok with it, so rock on! :D

Nice! Hey SUmjo, this may work for you..go fill gas in Montreal for a few days and then the slightly lower gas in Ontario wouldn't seem so high afterall.

Dude (VJ), you can write your own ticket for marketing for Canadian companies :D

Check out this site. enter the gas price in your city (or closest city) and see what the price in your area should be, and how much extra profit the bloody vampires are making from you at the pumps.

http://www.gasgouge.ca/

*********************************************************
Your gas prices are 26.7¢ per litre above the normalized cost of $1.11 per litre in Toronto
26.7¢

With today's crude oil price of $101.18 USD per barrel and the US dollar at $1.06 CAD, the price of regular unleaded gasoline in Toronto should be $1.11 per litre at normal profit margins.

At a price of $1.38 per litre, you are paying 26.7¢ per litre in pure excess profit. Across Canada, an extra margin of 26.7¢ per litre generates an additional profit of 26.7 million dollars per day.

Calculations based on Hugh Mackenzie's Gas price gouge: The sequel.

What are you? Gas prices are the same everywhere. Is it selling for any less in the USA or any other country? NO! Is that news to you?

Geez.

I think you have got to mind your language. I donot know why started to bust in a decent post by the OP who expressed that we were gouged by the Gas companies.
Gas is the USA is selling for $3.67 a gallon (around 3.6 litres). At 1.06 exchange rates do the math.
Even in texas, initially the Gas price rose just 10 cents a Gallon.
I think it is high time to make Oil companies (in Canada)nationalised, similar to Health care.
I pay around $450 (at 1.20 $ a litre) monthly on Gas alone. To get back at the Oil companies, I am actually thinking of being in EI which would give me the same savings that I am saving right now and will serve as a protest to the Oil companies.

Peace

Well, I always avoid non-constructive debates in life. In fact, thats the reason, I had mentioned very clearly that many of you would relate to what I have written and I think, they would have got my message loud and clear.
