Nice idea :)

Conservation can go a long way too. I know several people in the US (that have comparable home sq ft) who pay much more for their electricity, water and gas than I do even though their prices are much lower.

Why drive 1.5 hours for stuff I can buy here? - It makes fiscal sense. Even with the gas spent on driving, I still end up saving 25%-35% or even more in some cases.

What about duty at the border? - Well, you just have to get a little creative :D Afterall it's your money.

Doesn't this hurt the Canadian Retailers and hence the economy? - You bet it does and I wish more and more people would do so. That's the only way retailers will start to listen and lower their prices.

Ditto here.

With the exception of groceries, I buy everything from the US including gas. Fortunately, I am within 20 minutes to Detroit and within 1 hr to most shopping districts in metro Detroit. Also, have access to a PO box in the US for delivery of online orders.

In addition, I buy a lot of things online and that saves much more than goods from a store.

Like you say, it's my money.

No body asked you where you shop and where you buy stuff. I asked if you have solution to lower prices, if you don't have then sit relax and wait for your passport.

Umm. that 's a solution to lower prices, read my post again..very carefully.

Regarding going to Buffalo for shopping, you are smart enough and maybe not other people are as smart as you. :)

Talk about yourself pal, there are certainly "others" on this forum that do the smart thing by shopping across the border.

I travel to US frequently both by Air and Road, and i have also done plenty of shopping in US and brought stuff to Canada. Again, the question is how about those who don't travel to US.

Thats correct, it shouldn't be a business to anyone, right?

Find a post office that has PO boxes, call them and ask for availability. If available, go to the post office and fill out the application form. They will need to see your ID and your permanent address. Some post offices may ask for a reason for the PO box and you could state as personal use as you may be receiving packages.

Not all online vendors deliver to PO box. It depends on how the shipment is sent. If sent by UPS, the option is to pick the package from the UPS outlet.

Wish I could present you with a tailor made one size fits all kind of a solution, but sadly such a creature doesn't exist :)

That said, even if 40% of the population in Canada was to start shopping across the border, it would put a significant pressure on the retailers to stop being greedy.

The only major reason I can think of someone not being to shop across the border is lack of a US visa, but then all natural and natrualized Canadians, citizens of visa waiver countries and anybody with a B1/B2 visa can shop across the border.
