Since the original title is "What did you like in Canada?" Here goes

What really grabs me is that nobody goes around calling me "uncle"- not even the young desis. So good!
Also in India, being 45 +, I had sometimes wanted to leave Birla because of their "makhi chus" ways, but couldn't find any other company to take me on. However here, I get offers for jobs, no sweat. Surprisingly, even Dubai would offer me jobs. But in India 'tis difficult to jump ship at 45+ unless it's to the bottom of the ocean. (Kinda lays waste to other peoples' theories that pelple over 45 find it tough going here)

At lunch in the cafeteria at the company I work for, I hear spoken tagalo to one side, Mandarin on the other, then Cantonese, Russian, Polish, Rumanian, Spanish, French, Marathi, Gujarati, English all around me and in the middle, there is me bundle lagaoing with someone in BAMBAIYA.

Wah, kya rush hai!
Jhakas!

Day before yesterday, I realised that I had not brought one of the packages home that I had bought from Home Depot (on 7th October)- it contained two small items and was scanned separately - the others were big and were scanned directly from the trolley.

I called up home depot and enquired if they had found the package. They looked around, even called the cashier who had served me, but could not find the package. But they advised that I should go to the store and speak in person, and if need be, with the Manger.

In the evening, I did that and talked to one of the cashiers. She understood the whole situation, talked to the original cashier once again, and also to the Hardware section guy from where I had picked the goods. They all replied that they had not seen the package.

However, looling at me, she could sense that it was a genuine case, and so she wrote a note on my original invoice allowing me to pick up the same things at no cost. I went to the guy who had cut a duplicate of the key and showed the note to him, and he immediately cut another key for me - no charge. Similarly I went to the cashier at Hardware, picked up a studscanner hanging in front of her counter and showed her the note. She understood and immediately deactivated the item from ringing the alarm when I would walk out of the store.

This is another thing I like about Canada - people do have faith in your being genuine. In other parts of the world, you are guilty unless you prove yourself to be otherwise.

1. It was my first week in Canada, I applied for SIN and started applying for the job. On 10th day, I was selected for the job but had no SIN. I informed the employer that I am waiting for SIN. They said that they will wait for a week and then offer the position to some one else if I can not submit SIN. I went to the office where I applied and explained the situation, He ( the officer ) made a long distance call to Ottawa right then and obtained SIN, wrote it on a paper, stamped and signed it. I produced that paper to the employer and got the job !! ( I can not imagine happening this in India unless I have high influence or heavy Bribe !! )

2. I was travelling in a State Transport Bus in India. One old lady was struggling hard to get in the bus due to age and health problems. Bus Driver commented " Ma ji, Ab Ap Ghar baith ke Bhagwan ka bhajan karo, ye kya umra hai ghumane- firne ki ! " --- The same situation I saw in Toronto, an old man was finding it hard to get in to the bus, Bus Driver got up from his seat, stepped down from the bus, helped the old man getting in the bus. See the difference in the aptitude !!

I like the Parks system. Almost everywhere around me there are beautiful lush green parks. Mine has a small lake too....In around a few miles of me there are numerous such parks. Quiete beautiful.
