Lets see what I am grateful for:
1. I can quit my job and puruse my dreams without worrying about being talk of the town.
2. I fail over and over again to my heart content without someone saying I am a loser.
3. I can live with my other half without getting married.
4. I don't have to do rounds of relatives every week, month or year and worrying about getting them upset.
5. There is no-one to nose into my personal life.
6. There is corruption in this country too but it doesn't affect my daily life directly.
7. Meeting and interacting with people with varied interest - everyone is not chasing the dream of becoming engineer, doctor, IAS.
8. The feeling of all powerful - I am in control of my own life, to a large extent. My neighbors and relatives are not controlling my life.
9. Nobody is telling me that I can not do something as I am not privledged enough.
10. Don't have to suck up to the boss by doing his personal stuff.
11. Most people pay attention to when I am talking (accent is beneficial).
12. I don't have to worry about going to lallu's birthday, one thing or other every few days.
13. Being eldest in my generation, I don't have to attent each and every family event(My cousins in India curse me as they have to fill that role in my absence).
14. Nobody tells me that I am bad hindu as I like beef.
I will post some more as I remember.
1) Less racism (matter of fact, I've never experienced it myself) than down South. I don't get stared at in malls nor do I get a wierd look from a waiter in a restaurant because I'm Indian. I don't feel the white/black/brown thing at all work, we're all just colleagues. There is no difference in the way a white guy talks to another white guy at work or talks to me.
2) I don't have to call my boss (or anyone) Sir and nobody calls me Sir either. I dont' have to suck up to anyone to get a raise. Within certain bounds of professionalism, I'm allowed to speak my mind and I often do. Sometimes, the rebel in me even gets appreciated by others.
When I don't like something, I complain and people actually listen.
3) Feels good to see ordinary people (or even poor people) have as much pride as the millionaires. Whenever I visit India, it breaks my heart to see the system force the poor to be extremely humble all the time. They're expected to take all kind of crap from the rich without ever complaining, and I always wonder if there's a volcano building up inside.
4) My decisions are my own and although close relatives do add their input (which I value), the final call is always left upto me.
5) Immigrants are integrated into all walks of life. You see immigrants (including desis) as anchors on TV shows, in the police force, immigration officers, politics, arts and culture etc etc. I lived in the U.S. for 6 yrs in NJ (an area swarming with desis), but never saw ONE Indian police officer. Not ONE TV anchor was a desi. Mostly computer guys, doctors, lawyers, taxi drivers and convenience store owners.
6) When I spend money, I get a satisfaction guarantee. I was in India recently and noticed one thing over and over again. Even after spending a huge amount of money, there's absolutely no guarantee that you'll get your money's worth. For example, you could by a suit for Rs. 15000, but when they deliver it to you, there will be a spot somewhere, or it won't be ironed properly, or it wont' fit right etc etc. You give it back to get it fixed and it comes back with another problem. Total lack of professionalism.
And I'm sure there's more.

Are you there?
First and foremost, I am part of “Canadian Desi”.
2. I don't 'have to' 'have to' work till 8.00pm everyday to get noticed.
3. I get enough time to enjoy with my family at home (especially in winters).
4. I have my own Credit Report, I don’t need any guarantor.
5. I love driving, and I can enjoy it here.
6. Things are affordable to certain extent.
7. CP24 … weather, traffic & news on one screen.
I don’t like one thing though, Toronto doesn’t have good Hindi Radio.

8. I get to experience each & every activity of my 1 year old daughter. I get to see the smile and scream that announces my arrival at evening. I get to spend some real quality time with her.
