I agree with DT.....not the racism is very perceptable in US but the moment one land in Toronto one can feel a big change in the way people look at me and also in daily interactions....Canadians seem to be much more tolerant of diversity than Americans
A person living in Canada may not feel this but i do feel a big difference everytime i visit.
And so I am happy that i am moving soon.

Great !!!!! Finally Montreal Police acknowledged the problem of racial profiling and human right violation and they are taking action to address this problem Let us see when Toronto Police is going to acknowledge this problem… read the following article for details :
Montreal police adopt racial profiling rules
Allow `no discriminatory behaviour'
Minority groups welcome `positive step'

MONTREAL—The city's police chief announced yesterday his force has formally adopted a policy denouncing racial profiling by officers, partly in response to a series of human-rights complaints.
"We tolerate no discriminatory behaviour within our organization," police Chief Michel Sarrazin said at a news conference. The announcement came during provincial anti-racism week as Canada's second-largest municipal force attempts to improve relations with minority communities.
It's part of a long-term strategy that includes boosting the number of officers from the city's minority residents.
The policy makes it clear to officers that targeting residents because of their ethnicity, religion, language, sexual orientation or other factors won't be permitted.
While he doesn't believe there is a problem with racism among the force's 5,500 uniformed and civilian employees, the chief acknowledged some individuals may be acting on their own.
"It's really the exception that we have to manage."
The policy has been in the works for more than a year. A committee comprising academics and community representatives studied the situation in Montreal and examined policies in other North American cities.
Representatives of minority communities welcomed the policy and the inherent recognition that racial profiling may have been used by some officers.
"It's a very positive step and I think the community will be happy about it," said Peter Flegel, co-chairman of Black Action in Youth, who helped develop the police policy.
Minorities, he added, will be watching to see that sanctions are strong enough to deter officers from acting on their own.
He said the Montreal force's willingness to address the issue contrasts with Toronto, where police have denied that racial profiling exists.

Phew! Four pages and we still continue to debate about it ! Thanks for pulling out words like racial profiling, I need not read the newspaper.
I travelled and stayed in more than six countries - all over the world including Germany, Switz, China, Denmark and US. I feel comfortable working, earning and living here in Canada.
I travel all over the country and what astonishes me is that so many Indians are working in Canadian cities/ towns at respectable positions and in much higher levels than I could expect ( Indian origin, born and immigrants). I am in Sales and interact with lot many clients and whatever little I have seen, I am yet to come across any kinds of \"slurs\" or \"discriminations/ aspersions\" cast at me.
I experienced discrimination in China - can you believe it? Germany was as bad.
On a much lighter vein I wish to ask my friends - don't we discriminate in India - on state levels, on lineage lines, on casteism ? I am willing to argue and place my bets on that. At a recent Indian Cultural program that I had been, I came to know that South Indians do not attend North Indian functions and vice versa. I was also told that amongst Keralities - there are two factions - Gulf and Indian, and the twain shall not meet ( the Gulfies consider themselves wealthier).( This was told to me by one of the Indian Keralite - I don't know if this is true).
Lastly, if racism - is such an issue, you are most welcome to go back to where your roots are... why brood, doodle over it. Does any one have a stat on how many people leave this country on account of racism ?
Doesn't US have the Klu Klax Klan - which though banned is still running secretly? Doesn't Bihar have the Ranvir Sena. Does't Germany have racism. Can you name a \\\"sena\\\" here in Canada which is meant for making a particular community feel superior and also does ethnic cleansing of the others ?....
The problem of discrimination has got more to do with a persons psychology and self - esteem on how he views himself. Most of the times it is more internal than external as pointed out by one of our friends here.
Now this would go to page 5. Keep writing ....
