Hey..if the univ. considers above 66% as first class with distinction..then i dont think it's low by any means.Anyways..thats past...can you elaborate me how can i apply to a 1 semester course.Would that be considered as a master's course or a under-graduate course. If ,you can just give me 2-3 points..i think i can try to enroll in these courses for the sept'05 session...and then once i get into a univ. i think networking and hard-work would take me to my destination....
waitin for your reply!!!

They are low for Canadian Universities. Nothing to elaborate. You will basically be taking COURSES...say 3 courses. Lets say you get A grades in those courses. In Jan 2006, you will approach a Prof. with those grades and ask for a masters project....(if he has any). After that you will register urself as a Part time student till u reach Fall 2006 wherein which you will change ur status to a full time student. All the work you do in this time will be considered for your research work. Of cos if you only want to do a course based masters degree then you can skip the thesis. However, that will also mean that you get no funding. I have talked abt this earlier.

Thanks Ottawa_nerd,
I really think I can try out that options. But unfortunately,i searched this whole thread as well as canadian desi but coudn't find out where you mentioned this earlier,as you said.I went to YorkU's ,Ryerson and UoT(Mississauga's) website..and checked the courses under "continuing education".For instance, for ryerson i can take three courses, say:
1.J2EE Solution Developer
2.Computer and Network Support
3.Web Site Design and Development
And then get 'A' grades in them and approach to profs as u said.Am i goin rite..man.If yes, then i could call the univ. guys today itself to check the availability and fees.
Thanks!!!

No you are not right. Those courses are, as Thinkingone pointed out, tech skills courses and not courses for a Masters degree. For Masters degree you would have the following (as examples):
1.) Computer Networks
2.) Database design
3.) Formal Langauges

If you were now going to register for a Masters degree, your grades in these courses would count as you can transfer your credits.

hi ottawa_nerd and others

I will be coming to Canada as a PR in June and have applied to some univs for masters in mech engg(robotics). I have a couple of questions to ask:

1) I have got a reply from one of the profs in U of Western Ontario who has agreed to include me in his research group and says that he will now arrange for the formal letter of acceptance for me. Does this mean that I am now gauranteed admission in UWO?

2) What r the chances of getting TA or RA? Wil the prof or graduate office communicate to me if I can get a TA/RA straightaway? Apart from them what r the scholorships available to a PR considering that I wont be eligible for OSAP since I wont be a PR for atleast 1 year? Do I have to apply for them now or later?

3) The reason I will be persuing Masters is to improve my chances for getting a good job say in R& D. I am not interested in going into academics. So is better to do masters or some community college course to improve ur chances of getting job in Canada? Which is economical and worth?

Apart I am still waiting for replies from Ryerson,Mcmaster and Mcgill. I will be glad if u could answer my ques.

Thanx
Sam

Sam you would be better of applying to McGill for your Masters in Robotics. I am not sure abt Western Ontario. Did you contact any desi's there ? Why dont you ask the prof to give u some references for students working with him. They may be able to help you. A good job in R&D means a Ph.D..Masters alon will not suffice. YOu will need a lot of publications aka a Ph.d.
Regarding that letter of acceptance, it only means that your case for admission is now very strong. You can still be rejected by the Graduate school. SO keep your fingers crossed. I have no idea abt OSAP. You can apply for NSERC (very very competitive) and also OGS. You can also apply for OGSST.
