I have gone through this thread and found it really helpful to me and fore sure for many others who share the same intent to immigrate and pursue post graduate studies in Canada to get accredited in their field. I'm pharmacist with 5 years bachelor degree graduated 4 years ago with very good grade of honor. I worked in private pharmacies and currently in pre master course which will end by next June 2005. I had IELTS a year ago and scored 7 in all modules, currently preparing for GRE and TOEFL and will take both exams after June 2005.

Now to what I need your help in, I applied for immigration to Canada year ago and till I get my landing papers, I need to arrange for master in my branch " pharmacology" in Canadian UNIV as a scholarship or based in governmental loans. BTW, I'm married with 2 kids and 26 years old and speak some French as well.

I read about PEBC for pharmacists want to work in Canada and heard that this job is in high demand in Canada. My destination port is Toronto but I can change to any where in Canada where I can have a better chance both for admission and job offers.

What chances do I stand if u could point me out?

Thanks and regards,

26years and 2 kids !!!! My My My :D....
But in a way that can help u in Canada..you can get tax credits... If you can speak french, it would be best for you to apply in Quebec Universities...
The govt of quenec subsidizes education in Quebec universities if someone is willing to take the entire course load in french. What this means is that the govt will pay the differential fee that is applied for Students who are out of the province (i.e., international and other Canadian provinces)...

Yes, I h ave to babies. I married the same year I graduated from they faculty. One is 3.5 years the other is 10 months old. I speake Frecnch but not to the extent I can take an entire French graduate degree. It will take me a while to be fluent in French and I don't want to start the entire sudying all over again it is enough to study for phrmacy license. I will do my best to pass the evaluation pharmacist exam and then the qualification one. It will take me at least 2 years so I need to support my family within this period so, I think Qubec is out of question for the time being.

What do u suggest?

Regards,

Hi Ottawa_Nerd,
That was a gud article but i had some bad experiences.I completed my B.E in comp. Sc. & Engg in 2003 from shivaji univ.,kolhapur(not an IITian .....) in first class with distinction.I applied to UoT,Mcmaster,Uo Western Ontario and Uo Ottawa for a master's degree for sept'04 session....got rejections from all of them.I am a permanent resident rite now..and so i gave one more shot this time for Sept'05 session at Uo Waterloo and Ryerson Univ......i didnt even asked for any funding from any one of them.....and again got rejections from both of them. So,my final conclusions were either have some source(thru some proffessor...same as in india)......or get some work exp. or certificcations under your belt .. before you start wasting your money on application processes.
cheers!!!

harmeek,

IMO References play a great role here. Narrow down your field of interest, based on that select universities and professors, and initiate communication with them. I personally got better results when I approached them as per process, and provided them all the necessary documentation for their informed and quick decision, and kept on following up the issue in hand.

Hope that helps.

Regards.

Hareem...I am very surprised why they rejected you. What is your area of research ? You should contact professors directly and if they are interested (Miyan biwi raazi toh kya karega kaazi)...the uni should not have any reason to reject you (rare cases do exist).
You should have a good SOP (statement of purpose), and you should show some skills that you feel can serve the research purpose of the professor.
Waterloo is the best uni in Canada for Comp Sci. Getting admission there is tough. You got rejected from Ottawa U..now thats news for me :D...

Thanks thinkinone and ottawa_nerd,
yaar...it's harmeek not hareem...lolz.I didnt had any contacts with any professors or i dont know any professor personally either when i applied to these universities...and i guess that was the main reason for my downfall.I was 100% sure that i wud get admission atleast in ryerson univ. after having all those education skills and 3 months candian exp. as a java developer, but this monday when i got a rejection letter from them too.....all my hopes dashed..lol.And i guess,my SOP is pretty gud as were my references.I went to the Universities fair once and i had a talk to one UoGuelph professor.I told him i got like 69% and that's considered gud in india. He said, you know i selected a chinese guy and he has 99%..how come you guys get so less averages.I wont mention the name of the professor here ..but these were the exact wordings he said. So,i've decided i would get some work exp. or some java certifications before i apply again.
cheers!!!

p.s:Or,might be when ottawa_nerd becomes a professor at UoOttawa,i might give a try again..cheez

hmmm... :h

harmeek, Getting into a productive dialog with professors is going to get u results. Now keep on thinking innovative ways how to achieve it!

If u r in software, go for CIPS. Personally, to improve my job-market requirement quotient (if there is any ..lol), I will go for a community college course rather than MS. I have seen no person with MS/PhD in industry in the area, I live... unless u want to get into education field later.

Keep on adding Canadian work experience, and upgrading skills abt the field you are in, at a regular basis.

Hope above ramblings make any coherent chain!
