TK,
$ 800 for grocery for a family of four?? It sounds a bit too much!
Visiting India every two years with whole family?? Not unless you work for airline!!!
Question was if 45K is good enough for a decent life for family of four.
Visiting India every two years does not form the basis of a decent life in Canada or does it?
To begin with you can lead a decent life with 45K in Canada. I did it and more recently I hired someone at this salary and he has been maintaining good life style (as per him) since last two years with his wife taking care of Kids (no golfing though!)

What I am getting at is 45K is not a bad salary to begin with for a decent life style.

Guys .... the important thing to remeber here is "starter salary" ..... that is what you need to get a foothold in Canada for the first six months to one year ..... after that you have the " Canadian " experience and then you can look for jobs / salaries that meet your needs or requirement.

TK has given a good break up on expenses. However what he has not factored in is about $ 200 + per month from CTC .... depending on the age of your kids. This plus if your wife is not working your tax will be less and you would be getting about $3050 per month from a salary of $45,000 PA.

In short, it is possible to live in 45K anywhere in Canada if you are ready.
There are some very good posts but here are a few other things to consider:
All the posts above has forgotten the original question.
All posts has forgotten child care benefits.
Also all the above posts has forgotten that the wife at home can do some baby sitting if a trip to India is desired and save up or postmponed the trip all together until a better job is secured.
Also the the person can get another part time to make extra money. Not so hard to live in 45K, believe me I have doen it for less than 45K with one kid. Also.
Also when a trip is planned to India, try to sublease your apartment or let it go and move your furniture to a storage and go for a month or over a month that will save you money and now the overall total is less. Also get Costco membership to reduce grociery cost.
Look for local farmers markets or farms for cheaper items. Go to u-pick sites, a good family outing and cheaper fruites/other items.
Not playing Golf is not the end of the world. As, some one mentioned, I do not like golf even now I get free tickets now and then but never use them.
Also try camping for cheaper vacations.
All the best.

Hi,

Can someone help to let me know what will be the cash in hand for a $120 K salary (before taxes)? Or to have $8000 in cash every month what salary range the package should be (gross salary for a year)?

Thanks..................Jona

1. $120k gross for an employed single individual will fetch him approx. $79,737.63 net (annual).

2. For $8000 net income each month, one should be making approx. $150,500 gross per annum.

Note: Above figures are based on Ontario as the province of residence.
