I am not sure what you mean by "consular keeps the original documents." How can they keep your original documents like passport, landing papers, etc.?

They return it same day if you go in person before their cut off time. Otherwise by mail there is no standard time. Sometimes it is about a week. Sometimes it can take 25-30 days. You need to give them prepaid envelope to return your documents.

Based on my experience around 6 months ago, around 50 people come in a single day, but now the number of people requiring this service would have dropped considerably.. If you have followed all the procedure and have all the forms / areas filled up, you can expect just 1 minute for the rep. to approve your form. He looks mainly at the Name, Place of birth, (both Cdn. and Indian passport should match) photo's and signatures. However, there will be a lot of illetrates ahead of you and will slow you considerably down as most of them donot know english and would have brought the form 1/2 filled in or search for a pen to fill in details infront of the representative.

Decided to apply for OCI for family of four. However need few clarifications and shall be thankful if someone provide the same at the earliest

What needs to be selected while filling up online self OCI application and for other family members OCI application from the following that Applicant is

Individual

Family group

as confusion is created by point 3 on the following link:

Anything else needs to be filled up in addition to Form XIX Part A for each and Part B comon for all in duplicate along with enclosures.

Can someone please explain the complete procedure for getting OCI for the benefit of all once again with the time frame etc?

Do CGI keep original if one goes personally with copies and original?

I went to the consulate this week to collect my OCI. I saw a notice that effective Dec 31 they shall be accepting only 60 OCI applications in day on a first come first served basis. So back to the good old days to lining up at 5.00 a.m. in the morning.

Dec 31st, 2008? They have not updated their website to say that.
