Could someone please help me get answers to some of my questions:

- Can I apply "by mail".
- If I apply by mail, do I need to send originals of Passports, citizenships card etc.
- If I apply by mail, how long you think it may take for me to get my originals back
- If I go there in person, do they give the originals back right away..
- How long do you think I will have to wait in the cosulate before my name is called.. assume I am the 45th person.
- Can I go alone and submit application for my family (me, my wife, and our minor son) or all of us need to go there.
- What time I should reach there... I am confused reading previous posts.. In one of the postings someone said even a person clocking at 7 could not make it..while at the same time he said he reached at 8.30 and was happy finding that he was well within 45 people..

I appreciate you sharing your experience.

Thanks
Vik

vikshr,

All your questions have been answered in this thread or other threads in this forum. For example just read this thread alone and you will find answer to if you need to submit originals by post and how long it will take to return them, etc.

No one can predict how many people are going to show up for OCI before 8 AM or whatever and how early you should reach.

Of course, you can submit the application of your family members.

Why do these morons keep on asking about your old Indian passports even though you gave them up long time ago during acquisition of canadian citizenship?
Does any one remember if the Indian consulate returns the indian passport after cancelling it when you apply for Indian visa for the first time on canadian passport?
Or do they keep the damn thing?
Also has anyone obtained duplicates of landing papers......10 years after you became citizen??????????????????
This OCI thing is a pc of crap

Probably to ensure that you had indeed cancelled the Indian passport. And yes, they send it back after putting a red cancelled seal in the first4 and last 2 pages.

Indian consulate do not keep any PP after cancellation ...........
OCI ( pc of crap ) becomes very handy if you have to fly to India for any emergencies .

thanks A. Yes it is visa for life and not too much of a price but the hassle to find those old canceleld passports and landing papers is too much.
If only pio card was a bit cheaper, i would take that route.

has anyone got a duplicate a of their landing papers from Immigration canada? How much it costs?
