V do ned basic communication skills as they are meant 4 getting r point across but we dont need 2 b a wizrd in a language 2 do a job skilfully. For that whats more imp is knowledge & skills . Except of course if a job is manager or salesman .
see my example of the programmer who used to work for us to see what I actually meant since this issue is being spread in all different directions.
There are plenty of people on this board who have decent jobs but are unhappy because they cannot grow in the same. Career growth usually means growing up the ladder and managing people.
Unless, you want to retain the same job(if you are lucky...with all the layoffs) for decades OR you are one of the 'average desi immigrant' that DTC talked about.

And whats wrong with being a \"Code Monkey\"?
I dont want to make comments on the 'other' type out there.
Infact define Code monkey and also tell how far he or she can go up the ladder. then we can compare it with reality.
Pray tell, Mr Jake.
See my example again please(though the guy mentioned was much more talented in what he did than I could ever dream to be...I actually am ashamed of thinking of the guy as just a 'code monkey')...it is an example from reality. Infact, if I tell you the kind of awards he's got...you will realise that not many has achieved what he has. However, like I mentioned before, career growth is *usually* related to climbing the ladder...something he could not OR did not care about.
NOTHING wrong in being a 'code monkey' if thats what does it for you. Nothings absolute in my world.

The statement I was responding to was there aren't enough jobs. Are you saying there's no jobs in Canada?
Yes.
I mean there are Jobs in Canada (there has to be).
If I am right and read correctly, at least you for one admit there might be shortage of jobs.

There's no way for me to know for sure. But yeah, if so many immigrants are finding it hard to get jobs, I can't imagine the market to be swelling with employers. I'll just take their word that its a tough market i.e. not enough jobs (please don't equate that to me saying that Canada is a country for illiterates and not professionals and that 90% of desis work in factories. I think that's garbage)
Anyways, the point is regardless of the the job situation, it is always good to have great communication skills. Although obvious, not many new immigrants pay the required attention to this. Maybe you don't need them right away just to "land" a job, but I don't know many people who just want to "land" a job and stay there forever.
And communication skills is a pretty important step on the ladder you need to climb to go up.

Are you there?
